TheeBlog Q&A Sessions: Sam Green

TheeBlog-SamGreenInterview
It’s Friday! And man do I have a sweet treat for you. You might remember a previous post featuring the exquisite work of the incredibly talented, London based Illustrator Sam Green (HERE) Well, I recently had the pleasure of cyber-meeting Sam and talk about his work and recent projects. Being the big fan I am, I invited him to chat and answer a few questions about his work, inspiration, work process and recent post-earthquake trip to Japan which inspired his latest project, on sale now, benefiting the victims of this natural disaster. I am sure you’re going to enjoy his work and this interview as much as I did, and to sweeten the deal even more, I have a surprise! Sam donated a beautiful signed print to be auctioned, and one of you lucky readers is going to take it home and give it the love it deserves!

Sub City

TheeBlog-SubCity
Remember your first visit to New York and that great ‘wow’ feeling you experienced after emerging from the subway and witnessing the city’s unique ‘life’? I do, and that is why I liked these lovely videos by the folks at RedglassPictures recreating this experience and featuring New York and Paris subways. Such a simple yet interesting concept, able to bring back memories or remind us of beautiful scenarios and environments that might get lost in our daily routines or that we might take for granted.

Not so Delicious anymore

TheeBlog-Delicious

Let me begin by stating I am a strong believer and advocate of change, and I adapt easily to it. (Yes, even the new Facebook features) But when a company like Delicious decides to ‘update’ and delete most of its users content, to introduce absurd features overriding my folders and months of work, we got a problem. I am hoping this was a mistake and that my material has not been lost in a black marketing and greed hole. If you’re experiencing problems with your Delicious please let them know, or let me know how to fix my issue? For now, I sent a few emails… let’s see if we get some help. Are there any other sites you guys use or recommend?

Brand New Conference 2011

TheeBlog-BrandNewConference2011
As I announced last week, I had the pleasure of traveling to the West Coast to attend the 2011 Brand New Conference in San Francisco. This is the second year the cool cats at Under Consideration (Armin and Bryony) organized this event (last year we gathered in NYC) and it could be easily described as a full day full of inspiring, educational and very entertaining presentations by über talented and respected designers/agencies from all over the world such as Vince Frost (FROST* – Australia), Christopher Simmons (Mine™ – San Francisco), Marina Willer (Wolff Olins – London), Matteo Bologna (MUCCA Design – New York) Alfredo Burga and Claudia Boggio (Infinito – Peru), Jonathan Notaro (Brand New School – New York), Ben Barry and Everett Katigbak (Facebook – California) etc… Yes, I know, and it is OK if you’re feeling jealous right now :) Today I want to share my experience, what I learned, what I liked, who I had the pleasure to meet and of course, a few inspiring quotes by our wonderful speakers.

Worry not friends, there’s an easy, sexy, cool and free way to get this done! It’s called WeTransfer and it rocks! To put it simple, it’s a file transfer site that allows you to email up to 2GB files FREE while providing a sweet dose of eye candy. I had the pleasure of virtually meeting Nalden, creator of WeTransfer not too long ago and because I LOVE his product so much and I recommend it to everyone I meet, I thought it would be a good idea to invite him and chat a bit about the inspiration behind the site, how it all works and why not, his world-domination goals and future projects.

SKYPE Stockholm offices

TheeBlog-SkypeOffice
You know well I am an advocate for beautiful and inspiring work spaces. After all, you spend most time at the office than at home :( Big companies like Facebook, AOL and Google know this, and they sure know how to design their headquarters and satellite offices in a friendly, non-cubicle-corporate-neon light-motivational poster-plastic plants-depressing way. (Sorry if I just described your office) Today is SKYPE’s turn to show off their swanky Stockholm offices. Check out the beautifully designed common areas as well as fun meeting rooms after the jump.

Marty McFly’s 2011 NIKE MAG

TheeBlog-Nike_MAG2011
You don’t need to be a movie geek when it comes to the Back to the Future trilogy. In fact, I bet 8 out of 10 people can recite lines, debate scenes and discuss soundtracks. We all love these movies! (yes, even the western version) and most importantly, love its characters – admit it, you always wanted to be like Marty McFly growing up! If you are like me and always wanted to be like McFly, today might be your lucky day! NIKE has partnered with the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Back to the Future saga to launch a limited edition series of NIKE MAG kicks! YES!! The same Nikes Marty wore when he traveled to 2015! Only 1,500 shoes will be produced and made available only through eBay, with all proceeds going to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. So, what are you waiting for? Start bidding and own a piece of history… or the future.

Wind illustrations by Peter Jellitsch

TheeBlog-PeterJellitsch
It is no secret that I love Architecture and enjoy the intricate process of it which I learned during my first years of College before switching to Graphic Design. I recently had the pleasure of meeting Peter Jellitsch a talented PhD Architecture Student at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, and avid reader of this blog. (Yes! That’s how we roll… all the way in Vienna!) Peter was nice enough to share with me his latest project (which I loved), an interesting series of hand drawings (ink/fineliner) done on the basis of wind behavior diagrams that are primary used for scientific air simulation. THAT is some PhD explanation for you! I feel smart just typing it :)

Peru’s moody new Stadium

TheeBlog-LimaStadium
Using a combination of innovative technologies and lighting layouts, the façade of the Peru National Football Stadium has been infused with a mixture of lights that allow the façade to act as a “mirror” of the crowd’s mood.In what is probably now the largest crowd controlled interactive lighting display in the world, the stadium is able to communicate the ebb and flow of excitement and disappointment to the surrounding city, thus becoming a watched spectacle in itself.

Space Oddity

TheeBlog-SpaceOddity
Bowie… we have a problem. When it comes to self-promotion, everything goes. At least, that’s the way it should be… right? Hoping to get into the profitable field of children’s illustrations and books, Canadian Illustrator Andrew Kolb created a beautiful self-promotion book inspired and based on the lyrics of David Bowie’s classic ‘Space Oddity’ and posted it online, for the world to enjoy and share. Now, as much as everyone loved the book and the idea, as you can imagine, the music group who owns the rights to Bowie’s song didn’t like it very much and hit Andrew with a C&D letter, forcing him to ‘censor’ every lyrical content and stopping any chance of publishing…

Another Day. Another Dropshadow.

TheeBlog-LifeofGraphicDesigners
If you love posters like I do, here’s one that you might want to get your manicured hands on! The awesome guys at The Design Bureau of Amerika recently launched a new poster illustrating a usual day in the life of a Graphic Designer and it rocks! If you are a Graphic Designer, or know one, you’ll either laugh or cry, but will definitely agree with it. (Although to me, the feedback from Account Management seemed to be more rational than it usually is).
