The lovely work of Dan Cassaro

TheeBlog-DanCassaroI had a conversation recently about the growing popularity of ‘old school’ techniques such as letterpress, handwriting and vintage style posters. And for a moment, it became a bit hard to explain why as designers, we love and appreciate the labor, dedication and talent involved in each one of the pieces we see daily on dribbble, behance, etc. Similar to explaining somebody at the mall the beauty and value of couture or vintage fashion. So, I figured showing samples of beautiful work and talent would make things a lot easier. And what better example than the work of Brooklyn based Designer and Illustrator Dan Cassaro. Check out his work after the jump!

National Handwriting Day

TheeBlog-NationalHandwritingDayIn case you didn’t know, today is National Handwriting Day. I’ll give you a minute to update your calendar… ready? OK. As most of you know (specially those following on Facebook) I am a full-on lettering, calligraphy, handwriting geek so I felt obligated to do my part and take 5 minutes away from the computer and write something out. Let’s admit it, we’re not even close to be as good as Hische, Bantjes or Tanamachi but it’s all about going back to basics, playing with ink & paper and having some fun…

Aeroflot 2012 Calendar

TheeBlog-AeroflotRemember when people used to dress up to flight? Thankfully I know there’s still people that do -like my parents. Moscow based Photographers Andrey Yakovlev & Lili Aleeva recently shot Aeroflot’s 2012 calendar. The Russian airline wanted to feature its updated and chic new look while paying tribute to the glamour and elegance of flying in the past, as well as stewardesses and their iconic uniforms – like Don Loper’s PanAm wardrobe. I know Alec Baldwin would appreciate this…

Now that I am bit older and wiser (at least that’s what I like to think) I’ve realized my taste in music and music videos has changed or evolved. Thankfully, there are many artists who still care and create beautiful videos using various techniques and creative methods. As a father of two boys, I can think of 127 different things, but hey, that’s just me… Artists Yayoi Kusama decided to find out and created a unique and fun installation combining these three elements. She provided a blank canvas (room) and thousands of colorful stickers to every kid that visited the installation. Check out the results after the jump…
