Hello Brooklyn

TheeBlog-BrooklynNets What started as a rumor-campaign with ‘leaked’ tweets, photos and part owner JayZ’s ’subtle’ hints has finally been confirmed as the new Brooklyn Nets have launched their new logo, campaign and website. As you should know by now, the Nets relocated to Brooklyn after a few seasons in New Jersey. The move, along with a new arena and new look will not only revitalize the franchise and generate a lot of new revenue in merchandise but will also give Brooklyn a deserved home team. Design-wise, I must say I like the strong use of Black & White and boldness which is carried well on promo videos and merchandise. Unlike that garbage Marlins logo we got stuck with… Check out some photos and videos after the jump.

I guess it was my turn…

TheeBlog-Fuckit You know how people always say that imitation is the biggest form of flattery… bullshit. Last night, thanks to an email from an awesome reader in Australia, I found some douchebags called Roar With Us using some of my ‘just for fun’ personal lettering/type exercises on their portfolio and what’s even worse, attempting to sell it on threadless. While I know copying and stealing work online will probably never stop, I feel like I have to do my part and expose hacks like these. Check out some photos after the jump. Oh! and sorry for the early week rant :)

Behind the Scenes: NYC Photo Shoot

TheeBlog-NYPhotoShoot It’s been a while since I posted some of my own work so I decided to share one of my latest fun assignments combining Art Direction, Photography, Fashion and of course, beautiful NYC. The project: a campaign photo shoot for a New York hotel. On this job, I had the pleasure of working with an amazing team of talented professionals including my dear friend and great Photographer Pablo Garcia, Makeup and Hair master Kristen Arnett, the beautiful Ashley Sherrill and my good buddy Lee Dahlberg. These are some of my personal photos and behind the scenes views which hopefully show all the details and hard work behind a shoot like this and a little bit more of what I do :)

History of New York in Photos

TheeBlog-HistoryNewYorkCity Today’s post is for all you Photography, Architecture and NYC lovers like me. New York City’s Department of Records recently launched the Municipal Archives Online Gallery. An gallery composed of almost a million digitized photographs taken mostly by anonymous photographers and municipal workers dating back to the mid-1800s. This collection covers New York City’s history thoroughly from its architecture and people to its infamous depression and organized crime era. Unfortunately, due to unexpected traffic and demand, the site is temporarily down but thanks to the great folks at The Daily Mail, here are some beautiful photos we can enjoy in the meantime.

Vibrant tones, lots of wood and some interesting wallpapers have been meticulously planned and fabricated in order to represent Don’s new life. Check it out after the jump!

Geek toy of the week: Pebble

TheeBlog-Pebble We all know what happened to that “…in the year 2,000 there will be flying cars!” theory so let’s bring it down a notch. Imagine a watch that can control your iTunes library, receive emails, calendar alerts, Facebook and Twitter feeds while GPS’ing and computing your runs, cycling and even golf? Too good to be true? Well, meet Pebble. A watch that does… everything I just mentioned :)

MARLEY

TheeBlog-Marley There is no doubt music has the power to touch and inspire us. And although many songs could bring back memories, heal or simply make you smile, (to me) there are only few performers whose charisma, passion and life could really dig deep, and stay with you for life. Bob Marley is definitely one of them. I witnessed this first hand last year when I visited Jamaica and had the chance to learn more about his origins, life and music. You could really ‘feel’ his music through the mountains and his people… MARLEY is Director Kevin MacDonald’s latest documentary film, which was released last week, featuring the life of Bob, unseen footage and narrations by his close friends and family. A must watch.

Grupo Gallegos Headquarters

TheeBlog-GrupoGallegos It’s been a while since we don’t cover - and envy - sweet work spaces but today’s post will definitely make up for it. Grupo Gallegos is a Huntington Beach based Advertising Agency with not only a great portfolio of work, but one of the coolest headquarters I’ve seen in a while! Their beach based office, an ex-movie theater, was designed by Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects and includes numerous wings, beautiful colors, a basketball court! and did I mention it is steps away from the ocean? Tour it after the jump and share it with your boss… We all deserve creative and inspiring spaces like this!

Caine’s Arcade

TheeBlog-CainesArcade There are stories that can make us smile, feel good and even inspire us. The story I want to share today does it all! Meet Caine, an extremely talented, resourceful and inspiring 9 year old boy from east LA who spent his summer vacation building his very own cardboard arcade. This film narrates Caine’s story, directed and narrated by Nirvan Mullick, Caine’s first -and for a while- only customer. I strongly suggest you watch this video today, not only is it a great story about a boy’s imagination and determination, but also about hope and the power of good will in people (yup, there’s still some left out there) and of course, social media. Enjoy and share it!

The impressive work of Sarah Esteje

TheeBlog-SarahEsteje I love to draw and waste office pens or markers. In fact, many of us do… but there are some folks like French Illustrator Sarah Esteje whose wondrous work, full of detail and exquisite technique can turn a simple ink pen into a magic wand. Check out some samples of her illustrations after the jump, and although she does not have a site yet, you can also check her tumblr page for more…

Drake + Yoann Lemoine

TheeBlog-DrakeTakeCare Yoam Lemoine has done it again. Who is Yoam you ask? Well, he’s a brilliant French Director with an admirable talent, vision and style. I discovered his brilliant work thanks to his epic music video Iron under his musician alias Woodkid (HERE) and I’ve been a fan since. His dark and surreal style has not only gained him praise and respect, but the admiration of many other artists and musicians who have partnered with him to create great music videos. Finally! His latest work for Drake’s Take Care music video is a proof of this and a preview of what to expect from this talented gentleman in the future.

Make Your Mark

TheeBlog-MakeYourMark Starting you own studio or agency is no walk in the park. It was one of the toughest projects I’ve ever encountered, but one that taught me things I would probably would’ve never learned working ‘for the man’. One of the most arduous tasks when launching your venture is getting some exposure and community love. These three London lads knew this and figured out a brilliant way to launch their newly established studio and engage their local community through a fun interactive window display using a Nintendo Wii remote, custom made Infa-Red yellow pencils and a printer. Check out Buthcher’s Hook video after the jump!

Horror Vacui

TheeBlog-HorrorVacui We recently enjoyed the cartoon-to-life work of Jirka Väätäinen and Photographer Dina Goldstein’s Fallen Princesses series. Today, I want to share a new series combining real life and fiction created by Federico Chiesa and Carolina Trotta, featuring a few of our favorite 80s horror film characters like Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, Darth Vader and those creepy little twins from The Shining who by the way, did not age well…

Wind Map

TheeBlog-WindMap To be completely honest, I’ve never trusted meteorologists, specially ‘weather girls’ (except Hilary Banks of course!). I mean, it seems like they have it pretty easy right? They’re wrong 95% of the time and nobody questions them or their predictions. So, if you’re planning a day at sea, skydiving or simply wearing a trendy massive pleated skirt and want to check your local ‘winds’, here’s a site that will help you. And although its creators, Fernanda Viégas and Martin Wattenberg from HINT.FM state it is not 100% accurate, at least it’s way prettier and more entertaining than your local station weather guys and their jokes ;)

The Real Cookbook

TheeBlog-RealCookbook I’ve always been a fan of books and know most of you love them as well. Specially my wife! And yes, although I love technology, iPad ‘books’ could never offer you that lovely ‘feel’, ‘warmth’ and ’scent’ good ol’ printed books can. But what if you could also ‘taste’ books? The folks at Korefe decided to check it and created a unique and delicious book made out of pasta for one of their publishing clients. The book can be customized to include your favorite ingredients while still featuring beautifully designed paragraphs and type. Wonder if this works for erotic novels…
