Coming Soon… The Daily Glyph

TheeBlog-TheDailyGlyph16 It is no secret that I am a big type geek. And if you’ve been following Thee Blog’s page on Facebook you probably have come across a few lettering exercises and type doodles I’ve been posting since last year on a daily-ish basis. Today’s post and announcement has a direct connection to these photos and the invaluable support and encouraging comments I’ve received from all of you :) Today I want to share a new project I’ve been working on and announce that it will be launching soon. The Daily Glyph is a collaborative website born out of love for Typography and the idea of simple daily sketches focusing on type. The idea behind this site is to share my personal daily sketches (which until today never saw the light of day) and also inspire and encourage other designers, illustrators, doodlers and Typography lovers to share their daily traces…

Global City

TheeBlog-GlobalCity I love to travel, and although I am no jet-setter or travel as much as I would like to, I’ve found myself constantly comparing cities, their pros/cons and thinking of how much more interesting cities could be if we were able to combine them. French graffiti artist Deck Two decided to not only imagine this surreal (and ideal) city, but to beautifully illustrate it, combining different landmarks and cities into one. The result… Perfection! Check out some photos and a process video after the jump!

2012 NBA Champions!

Miami Heat Intro 2011-2012 from Gil Green on Vimeo.

Sorry for the lack of posts today but we were too busy celebrating the Miami Heat 2012 NBA Championship!!! Yes, of course we had to join the parade and festivities at the Arena -and answer a couple of emails asking why I had not posted anything Heat related. Most of you probably watched the parade and celebration on TV but I still wanted to share some photos and yes, the Heat’s 2012 Intro (and a bonus, behind the scenes).

THEE BLOG Q&A Sessions: Christian Helms

TheeBlog-ChristianHelms There are a few contemporary Designers who I can easily name as sources for inspiration, admiration and that have helped me directly or indirectly to become a better professional. Christian Helms is definitely one of them. I had the great pleasure of meeting Christian two years ago at a the 2010 Brand New Conference. Now, I must be honest and say that I was not too familiar with him and his work until that day, but after enjoying (and drooling over) his presentation and chatting for a while realizing how awesomely cool and down to earth he is, I became an instant fan whose been following his work closely ever since. I had mentioned to Christian that I would bother him someday for an interview to chat about his background, career and work… and well, that day finally came and I am extremely happy to share this amazingly inspiring interview with you today!

Euro 2012 Girls

TheeBlog-Euro2012Girls As many of you know, the 2012 Poland and Ukraine hosted Euro Cup is currently going on and has already provided a few exciting matches (and upsets). Now, since the first round of matches is over and we have a no-game rest day, I thought it would be nice of me to share some Euro 2012 photos. And no, I’m not talking about stats or games, I’m talking about beautiful European football fans :) I am not sure when or where this idea of photographing and sharing female fans at tournaments like Euro or World Cups started but… you are welcome.

Much Better Now

TheeBlog-MuchBetterNow Someone asked me the other day what I liked most about new or trendy film techniques such as stop-motion, time lapsing, etc. and I realized one of the facts I most enjoy about these techniques is the inspiration they provide and challenges they pose for directors and artists out there to create bigger and better things! Much Better Now is great example of this. It is a fun and beautifully produced story by Salon Alpin about a forgotten bookmark whose imagination turns an ordinary book into an exciting and challenging ocean full of waves waiting to be conquered, opening the door to a new and exciting world, full new adventures. Watch this lovely video plus a bonus ‘making of’ feature after the jump!

Departure Date

TheeBlog-DepartureDate Last year I had the opportunity to visit San Francisco (HERE) and as part of my vacation itinerary, I decided to fly Virgin Airlines and experience the great service many friends have always raved about. I am happy to share that all the great comments were absolutely right. The great service, the in-flight entertainment, and the cool lounge-like interiors were simply great. This, combined with the admiration I’ve always had for Sir Richard Branson (any person who owns his own Island and hangs out with Victoria’s Secret models is A-OK in my book) have made a fan out of me and as one, I want to share Virgin’s new project as a Film Production Company. Departure Date is a film shot entirely aboard Virgin airplanes… oh, and as an extra bonus, it features my boy Luis Guzman!

Microsoft’s Vienna Headquarters

TheeBlog-MicrosoftVienna There seems to be a new trend among large corporations when it comes to decorating or building new headquarter offices. And this is a great thing! Companies like Google, Apple and Facebook have proved that it is not necessary to be or act like a ’suit’ to be successful, and their amazing non-corporate offices reinforce this theory. The concept behind these offices is to replace old corporate cubicles with open spaces, motivational posters with pool tables and video games, creating an inspirational playground for their employees. Microsoft has joined this movement and recently unveiled their new Vienna headquarters done by Austrian architects Innocad. Check out their new pad!

Meet Preemo

TheeBlog-Preemo

Let’s face it, we’ve all gotten that call from a friend or relative frantically stating ‘My email is not working!’ and asking us to fix it. I mean, we use computers on a daily basis so we should be experts right? Well, if you are your family or friends’ designated IT tech OR if you feel your computer has some sort of vendetta against you and your emails I have a solution for you. I recently had the pleasure of meeting Ivan Mladenovic President/CEO of Preemo, a Miami based company with a fresh and interesting take on IT/computer repair, and invited him to chat and tell us more about Preemo’s services and unique features…

What I Carry…

TheeBlog-What_Do_You_Carry You might remember my post last December about a cool site called What Do You Carry (HERE) focusing on the items and tools creatives carry on a daily basis. I really liked the ’share and connect’ idea behind this site and of course, the chance to check what’s in other people’s bags (you know you’re always wondering…) So, today I want to share what I carry. Thanks to Janine and the folks at WhatDoYouCarry.com for including me :)

Mugshot Monday

TheeBlog-MugshotMonday

There’s something special about the relationship between coffee and coffee lovers. Something that perhaps non-coffee drinkers like me might not understand. I mean, the passion with which my wife (who drinks enough coffee for both of us) shops, selects, prepares and enjoys her daily coffee is truly intriguing, altho it could also be that I am in love and everything this woman does mesmerizes me :) Point is, I had one of those “I must share this” moments while browsing the interweb this past weekend, when I came across a site that caught my attention and immediately made me think of every cool coffee lover I know. Mugshot Monday is an interesting and fun site created by Lisa Frame which features and combines creative and inspiring people with… their love for coffee. Happy Monday!

The coolest office you’ve never seen

TheeBlog-Inventionland When it comes to office decoration or architecture, few companies are willing to break ‘corporate rules’ and offer their team a fun place to interact. Companies like Facebook, Google and many more have raised the bar with unique and beautiful spaces we all envy. Now, we’ve featured a few inspiring offices before but I really think Inventionland’s Pittsburgh headquarters might take the cake for the most fun, inspiring, creative and crazy office I’ve seen so far. Their ‘office’ includes castles, tree-houses, a massive pirate battle ship, a cave/kitchen, trees, lakes, waterfalls… Should I go on? Check out this sweet office after the jump!

The beautiful work of Pascal Blanchet

TheeBlog-PascalBlanchet It is no secret that I love everything vintage. In fact, I still have not met anyone who doesn’t enjoy the beauty of ‘old’ work ranging from signs and posters to furniture. There’s something special about vintage Illustrations and posters. Perhaps it is that nostalgic feeling or the beauty of simplicity that captivates us, but when simple lines and lovely colors combine seamlessly, it becomes virtually impossible to not stare… or drool. Pascal Blanchet is a talented Québec based Illustrator with a beautiful collection of work that can be described as modern-vintage. His dexterity to combine vintage style illustration and colors with modern elements and stories is simply perfect!

Quotes of Motivation

TheeBlog-QuotesofMotivation

Decorating an office or working space should be relatively easy and effortless if you have some basic design principles and good taste. Unfortunately, many offices out there seem to have stayed frozen in time (and not in a good ‘Mad Men’ way) or even worse, still believe in those obscenely tacky motivational posters usually found on low budget made-for-TV office sets. So, if you’re planning an office makeover or simply want to add more decor with a punch to your wall, here are some posters that might do the job. They are simple, effective and to the point. So simple you could have them done professionally at banner and flyer printing shops. Quotes of Motivation is a project by Doodlicious, a collection of words, reminding you that you should be working and not procrastinating.

Apple. The Early Years.

TheeBlog-AppleEarlyYears It is no secret that I am a loyal Apple fan. A quick glance at my studio and equipment could sure back up this statement. So, what could make this brand even more interesting? How about some beautiful vintage Photography from its early years featuring what happened behind closed doors. The meetings, offices and fun that we rarely get to see. These photographs were taken by Bill Gallery at Apple between 1989 and 1995 over the course of a variety of projects for several annual reports, Apple corporate culture pieces and customer stories. Gallery is a talented Photographer whose work for Apple, Herman Miller and Morgan Stanley has been widely recognized and published. Check out these interesting photos after the jump!
