The lovely work of Jean-Charles Desevre

TheeBlog-JeanCHarlesDesevre Ever since I was a handsome little boy, I have had this profound admiration and curiosity for beautiful, detailed crests and luxury labels. I would spend a significant amount of time studying -and attempting to re-create them- and I am glad that admiration and love for these beauties has not faded over the years. In fact, as I became a Design professional and part-time internet/inspiration surfer, I’ve learned to enjoy them even more, as well as the amazingly talented artists that create them. Today, I want to introduce you to the lovely work of French Graphic Artist Jean-Charles Desevre. I recently discovered Jean-Charles’ work and I must say it was love at first sight. His impressive talent as well as his impeccable and detailed illustrations, labels and logos inspired me and I am sure will inspire you too…

It only pushes me to work harder, improve and learn new things! Since my last identity project for Locos Por Juana (post here) , I noticed many of you, like me, enjoy seeing the whole process and work behind a finished project. So, today I want to share one of my latest adventures. Although this was a personal project/experiment at first, it has evolved into something bigger that I will soon share with you. Hope you enjoy it!

The Sartorialist

TheeBlog-TheSartorialist Ever since I can remember, I’ve had this profound love for good clothes and style. Yes, good clothes have always been available, but as Fashion has become more ‘mainstream’ and store-available for men who believe in – and have the balls to dress up, it is easier to find and justify wardrobe expenditures. Also resulting in battles with my wife over inexistent closet space. Now, if you ask me what or who I believe contributed to the recent impressive popularity of fashionistas, blogs and resurgence of the love for Fashion, I would definitely say Mr. Scott Schumann, better known as The Sartorialist. Scott has played a pivotal role in the world of Fashion by combining it with his Photography and becoming one of the most visited fashion blogs in the world (part of my daily bookmarks) as well as inspiring many of us. Check out this great video featuring Scott and his inspiring daily routine…

Sans Cursive

TheeBlog-SansCursive Monday was my son’s first day of third grade already :( ! And although he was happy to see his friends and start a new year, one of his concerns when he got home was that this year, all his tests and half of his homework need to be done in cursive. Now, you can only imagine my joy upon hearing this as I attempted to explain to him how great this was, giving me another reason to smile and happily pay for his tuition. Thing is, many states have adopted the Common Core State Standard Initiative, completely dropping cursive handwriting instruction from their mandatory courses. You see, cursive is a proven and essential tool to develop fine motor skills that needs to be taught, not dropped. Fortunately, there are many people that share this belief like Indiana based Designer named Cristina Vanko, a talented Designer who I recently had the pleasure of meeting through TheDailyGlyph.com and whose love for type and cursive inspired her beautiful school thesis named ‘Sans Cursive‘, a petition addressed to National Governors Association, asking for cursive to be reinstated in classrooms across America. I invited Cristina to chat about her project and idea behind it. Enjoy it after the jump and please, keep teaching your kids cursive!

The making of ‘Hot Cakes’

TheeBlog-TheDarkness_HotCakes People usually ask what are the most important sources of inspiration and elements ‘creatives’ rely on when working on projects and I’ve always considered Music to be an essential tool. As a music lover I am stoked to share today’s post, featuring The Darkness, a british band that I’ve been a fan of since 2002, and their newest album called ‘Hot Cakes’. I had the great pleasure of chatting with Rob Chenery, Creative Director of London based agency TOURIST about the ‘making of’ the band’s provocative album cover. This one is a special Friday treat as we’ll enjoy some exclusive behind the scenes photos and the creative process behind this project. Happy Friday!

The concept behind this project, “Fashions Fade” but “Runway is Forever” is beautifully narrated and executed by live-action footage of the series’ striking principal talents amidst lovely shape-shifting fields of smoke. TheeBlog-LouisVuitton-MuhammadAli I’m pretty sure you’ve seen those lovely Louis Vuitton ads featuring iconic celebrities, politicians and artists. Yes, they are great, but this new Core Values campaign, featuring the All-Time Greatest, is simply gorgeous! Muhammad Ali – The Greatest Words is a tribute to the champ, beginning with a series of videos featuring the impressive calligraphy of Niels Shoe Meulman and a mesmerizing performance by Poet Yasiin Bey (Mos Def). 1964 World Trade Fair

OK, I admit it, I’m feeling the Olympic spirit and I’ve been watching a lot of TV, therefore, commercials. And although most of them are lame and boring (yes, I’m talking to you GM, BP and rest), I found this gem from Stella Artois last night and I had to share it. Everything, from the retro film, voice-over, set and styling to the awesome robo-props and music works great for this spot. Check it out…

Team USA’s Nike 21st C. Windrunner V

TheeBlog-US_team_Nike I don’t know about you but I honestly think I’ve watched more TV these past two weeks than in the past three months. And I’m sure you know what I am talking about if you love sports as much as I do :) Although these games started a little slow for the US Team, things have come to ‘normal’ and we’ve enjoyed our fare share of medal ceremonies. Speaking of ceremonies, I know there’s been a lot of speculation about the US Team’s Nike ceremonial attire, specially that gray windbreaker jacket. Some of us found it refreshing and elegant but some people found it “non-American” and even insulting since it didn’t include huge stars and stripes or a bold Red, White and Blue pattern. But there’s a lot more than just a plain gray Nike jacket and I wanted to share it with you…

Some of my latest work…

TheeBlog-LeslieGrace-PremiosJuventud It’s the beginning of a new month and I wanted to start off by sharing one of my latest projects. This one is completely different from other projects and yes, a special one because it involved a live music/stage performance broadcasted nationally on live television! I recently had the opportunity to create some work for Univision, one of the country’s top (and #1 Spanish) network and their latest music awards show called “Premios Juventud”. The task, create a 50s themed stage and screen graphics/animations for upcoming artist Leslie Grace’s performance. I’ve worked on many projects ranging from branding and design to user interface for apps and websites, but never done anything for TV or concert/performances in such large scale so I gladly jumped at the opportunity and documented the process to share with you all :)
