My Daft Punk experiment

TheeBlog-DaftPunkHalloween Considering Halloween is only a day away and the fact that I like to share and post personal projects I enjoy, today I want to show you the process behind my last (yes, I know a bit old but this year I didn’t have any time) Halloween costume/project. I’ve been a huge fan of Daft Punk for many years and I’ve always wanted my own Thomas Bangalter or Guy-Manuel so Halloween seemed like the right excuse to spend numerous hours working and making my own. For this project I had to recruit some help (my awesome and crafty brother) and had to experiment with a few materials. The result, a fully custom Thomas helmet featuring programmable LEDs and a bunch of high fives at parties :)

Stunning Pen Portraits by Mark Powell

TheeBlog-MarkPowell There’s something special and enchanting about vintage letters and envelopes from the 40s, 20s and even 1800s. And if you thought there is nothing else that could make them even more special, you have not seen them beautifully adorned by the breathtaking ballpoint pen portraits of London based artist Mark Powell. Mark’s portraits are all done using only biro pens and are usually done on vintage paper and envelopes. Yes! and Yes! Check out some of his fantastic work after the jump and visit his site where you can purchase them.

Bouncing on the River

TheeBlog-BouncingBridge Yeah, Tina might have rolled on the river, but French architecture firm AZC thought it would be funner to allow parisians to bounce across the River. How? By installing an inflatable bridge equipped with giant trampolines, dedicated to the joyful release from gravity as one bounces above the river. This project was presented as part of the “Contemporary Bridge – Paris” competition and it was awarded third place. Don’t know about you, but all I can ask myself is, what could ever beat a bouncing bridge!!!?

Iron Man 3

TheeBlog-IronMan3 Even though the movie won’t be released until may 2013, I can’t deny I am excited. Yes, some people might say that Iron Man jumped the shark after the first movie or that the movies are not good, but as a father of two boys, believe me, there is nothing cooler than watching super hero movies and playing them out later! Here’s the first official trailer for Iron Man 3.

Playin’ With My Friends

Where the Internet lives

TheeBlog-GoogleDataCenters We all know about the perks and benefits of being a Google employee, we’ve also seen many of their extremely cool offices playgrounds but what most of us have never seen, is what really makes Google the global powerhouse it is. Its Data Centers! And before you walk away thinking this is going to be some geeky post, remember we are talking about Google, so of course even its Data Centers will be fun and impressive. Think of them as a combination of different movie sets like Star Wars + Mission Impossible + Star Trek + a little more Star Wars and a flair of Dr. Evil’s layer. Of course, all in Google signature colors. Get ready to geek out!

Stunning lettering by Ged Palmer

TheeBlog-GedPalmer There are few things that make me smile, get my palms sweaty and inspire me to keep learning. Gorgeous Type is definitely one of them! You see, I’m constantly studying and researching inspiring Type and artists whose work I can only describe as inspirationally-stunning, and today, as a Friday treat, I want to share the gorgeous type and lettering work of the extremely talented british Designer, Ged Palmer. His exquisite technique and impressive work has been inspiring me to learn, practice and improve my lettering for quite some time already (and making me realize how hard I have to work at it to get where I would love to be…). Happy Friday!

Target’s RomCom

TheeBlog-TargetRomCom Let’s face it, Romantic Comedies will probably never go away. And fellas, if you have a girlfriend or wife, you will eventually learn to appreciate them and end up watching every possible rendition, even if Freddie Prinze Jr sucks at acting or the plot is the exact same in every movie. A couple of young professionals, preferably working in advertising or magazines, meet, fall in love, break up and get back together. Oh! and throw in a slutty best friend. Repeat… Knowing this, Target decided to launch a new online ‘campaign’ by creating their own RomCom called “Falling For You”, featuring Kristen Bell, Zachary Abel, Nia Long, and of course, their products. Although the idea is not new (remember BMW’s episodes?) it promises to be the first shoppable film that allows you to purchase all the items and outfits featured on a dedicated site.

Sleeping at the Chateau

TheeBlog-SleepingAtTheChateau It’s no secret that America is obsessed with celebrities, reality shows and anything that makes it to primetime television. So, it is only natural that Photographers like Jork Weismann push the envelope a bit further and give us a glimpse into the private life of celebrities and what happens behind closed hotel doors. Weismann’s latest book, Sleeping at the Chateau features celebrities like Eva Longoria, Scott Caan, Frankie Rayder, Sally Singer, Usher and Patti Smith, sleeping at Hollywood’s iconic and legendary Chateau Marmont Hotel. Check out some of his work after the jump. Oh! and there are a couple NSFW photos, featuring Eva Longoria. See what I did there…

Killing Them Softly

TheeBlog-BradPitt Perhaps you’ve heard of Brad Pitt’s new film “Killing Them Softly” featuring Brad Pitt, Richard Jenkins, James Gandolfini and Ray Liotta. (I know, you can’t get more mobster than Gandolfini and Liotta…) But what you might not have seen yet, is Pitt’s Interview photo shoot for his feature/interview with friend and Director, Guy Ritchie. But worry not, I’m here to share it with you (specially the ladies). What makes this shoot cool is the different characters Pitt is able to play (we all know the dude can act) and the great make up and wardrobe. If you’re into Photography, Fashion, Styling or Make Up, you will enjoy this shoot…

Thank You Felix!

TheeBlog-RedBullStratos I’ve always had this fascination with space and I remember many dreams involving space travel or being able to ‘fly out there’. Well, yesterday, the dream of an adventurous kid became a reality as he was the first human being to travel to the edge of space with the unique goal of freefalling down to earth. Today I want to thank Felix Baumgartner for inspiring kids (and many of us) to keep dreaming and fight for their dreams. And also share some stunning photos and video of his amazingly supersonic freefall from 128k feet, which happened yesterday, in case you live under a rock :) If you are still not familiar with this fun mission, here’s a brief explanation: Austrian skydiver and BASE jumper Felix Baumgartner, sponsored by Red Bull, traveled to the edge of space to jump back to earth breaking a few records such as fastest freefall (breaking sound barrier), altitude and time records. For the detailed description, continue reading…

The Very Real Bears

TheeBlog-TheRealBears Remember when Bogusky announced he was retiring from advertising – by advertising his new agency venture, merchandise, etc? haha sure. We all knew it was just a matter of time, and today I want to share his latest project for the Center for Science in the Public Interest. A straight-out, perhaps a bit too dark and real, PSA aimed at the jugular of every big soda company, specially Coca-Cola, mocking its signature happy bears. The campaign, called “The Real Bears” has been gaining traction on the internet and not only features Bogusky provocative style, but also a happy tune by Jason Mraz. Check out the video after the jump!

‘Stunning’ Interactive Print Ad by Lexus

TheeBlog-LexusStunning When it comes to advertising, there’s no such things as moderation or complacency, and perhaps that’s one of the things I like about it. Companies are constantly trying to outdo each other, and battle to be the one that launches that ‘it’ campaign, and of course, dominates the market. To prove my point, today I want to share a printed+interactive ad for Lexus that, if you have not seen it yet, will blow your socks off. And that perhaps will replace all existing QR codes n advertising. Please! The magazine ad was created using CinePrint, and to put it simple, once your magazine page is combined with your iPad, the entire ad becomes interactive. Sounds crazy? Check it out!

New York Fashion Week

TheeBlog-NYFW Last month, I had the pleasure of enjoying NYC for a couple of days as part of my vacation and got to absorb all the energy, inspiration and craziness I love and always miss. Now, most of you probably already know this but September is a pretty busy month in NYC when it comes to Fashion, and this year, I was there to experience some of the glam and craziness you can only find in NY. Today I want to share a few photos of the many I took while walking around the streets and of course, Lincoln Center. Now, before you ask, no, I am not a fashion expert or editor – although I do consider myself a bit savvy :), but when you combine Manhattan with interesting fashion/people, you are fortunate to have inspiring Fashion expert friends (this post is dedicated to y’all) and are a fan of Photographers like Bill Cunningham or Scott Schuman, you have no choice but to whip out your camera and get your Sartorialist on!

IE 9 Commercial (The Honest Version)

You might have seen Microsoft’s new Internet Explorer 9 ad spots on TV recently… yes, the ones with that annoying Alex Clare song. Now, we are all aware of how advertising works and how some companies sometimes may lie a little about the awesomeness of their products, but today I want to share a funny and true video I found this weekend showing the real IE9. Pretty damn accurate if you ask me!

Right on Target!

TheeBlog-AllanPeters It never fails. Whenever I meet somebody and explain what I do, or sit down to chat with a client, conversations always end up on samples of what they like and what companies they think are doing a great job when it comes to branding and advertising. I love listening to “consumers” talk about the brands they identify with and most importantly, WHY. Among the many companies always mentioned are, of course, Apple because of its iconic ‘clean and modern’ style and Target for its also iconic “imagery, style and their fun ads!” And I agree. I visit my local Target store at least twice a week, this is where we buy our groceries, school supplies and way too many toys; and to be honest, thanks to their constantly updated graphics and lovely overall design experience, I actually enjoy grocery shopping and walking through toy aisles. Over and over. Today I want to publicly congratulate Target for their amazing work and share the work of one of their in-house talents, responsible for some of their much deserved success. Check out the work of Allan Peters

Facebook’s First Brand Video

TheeBlog-FacebookAd As you probably know by now, Facebook announced they’ve reached 1 billion! users, and as part of their celebration, their first ever ad campaign/brand video has been released. Last year, I attended a branding conference in San Francisco, which included Facebook’s Ben Barry and Everett Katigbak, and was among the group of people who had the chance to preview some of Facebook’s ads and brand videos that are schedule to roll out and they all focus on the human side of Facebook and what it can really do for society, other than stalking and were done by Wieden & Kennedy. Check it!

Countdown

TheeBlog-Countdown As I was doing some research for a project today, I came across this beautiful video created by London based Celine Desrumaux featuring two things that I truly enjoy, retro-style graphics and spaceships. I know, who doesn’t!? It is not only beautifully designed and illustrated but the story is cleverly done and had me glued to my phone the entire time. Enjoy!

Famous Robots

TheeBlog-FamousRobots There are a few things we all love since our childhood, and robots are one of them! Whether it is a cool powerful tank-destroyer, a sweet workaholic machine, a badass sidekick who only needs to beep and whistle to communicate or a full-service nanny/maid, we’ve all wanted one (or a few) at some point in our life. And to celebrate our love for these awesome machines, New York based Designer and Illustrator Daniel Nyari created a beautiful poster featuring some of the most iconic and memorable robots of all time including Wall-E, R2D2, Optimus Prime, Voltron, Mega Man, etc. Check out these lovely illustrations and buy your poster today!

Playful!

TheeBlog-Playful I’ve been doing some type research lately for an upcoming project and a few presentations I am working on, and I must say that every time I have to ‘work’ and research, I realize how lucky I am to do and enjoy what I love! While doing my research, I discovered the beautiful and extremely detailed work of Buenos Aires based Graphic Designer Pablo Alfieri and his studio Playful. Pablo’s work combines type with everyday materials and photography to create beautiful campaigns and colorful posters. Check out some of his work after the jump!
