NYC Blackout by Phillip Van

TheeBlog-NYCblackout As New York slowly recovers from one of the worst storms in history and the press continues to show brave and admirable efforts to bring the city back to normal, we keep finding great pre and post storm photos online. But the photos I want to share today are some of the best ones I’ve seen to date. Brooklyn based Director/Photographer Phillip Van decided to roam the streets of New York City immediately after Sandy’s passage to capture a collection of beautifully eerie photos depicting an unusual and ghostly New York, which in some instances looked more like the set of a zombie movie. Check out the photos after the jump…

Recent Work: Latin Grammy Awards

TheeBlog-DiegoGuevara-LatinGrammyAwards As we approach the Holidays, specially Thanksgiving, there are many things I am very grateful for and that I want to share. No, no, don’t worry, I am not getting emotional… But I am. I am very grateful for being able to do what I love every single day, having the best family one could ever ask for, for the great and talented colleagues and friends I am fortunate to have and for the constant opportunities and challenges I am presented with. And today, I want to share one of my latest challenges/projects. You might remember a project I shared back in October featuring some work I did for the country’s leading spanish TV station, Univision (HERE) As you can imagine, it was an exciting project that introduced me to ‘TV world’ and opened the door to the opportunity of working again with these great folks, but this time on a way bigger scale and for a way bigger audience. The XIII Latin Grammy Awards.

Walking Around NYC

TheeBlog-DiegoGuevaraNYC

There’s something magical about NYC. Something that many people love but only few can describe well. I personally am in love with this city and its incredible architecture, fast-paced culture, artistic background, design & creative environment, impressive history and of course, fashion. Every visit feels different, and helps re-charge and inspire the hell out of me! (Don’t worry Miami, you will always have a special place in my heart) As most of you already know, although I’m a Designer, I love Photography and always carry my camera with me… So I thought it would be a good idea to share a few photos from my visits, inviting you to see NYC from my point of view and why not, some of my Photography.

Character Anatomy by Jason Freeny

TheeBlog-JasonFreeny Remember those creepy anatomy mannequins back in High School? Yup, the ones with all organs exposed… If you had at least one anatomy class in school, you probably have a good idea of what the human body and different organs that compose it look like. But have you ever wondered what many of your favorite characters like Mario, Barbie, Hello Kitty and Mickey’s insides look like? Well, Illustrator and Artist Jason Freeny certainly has. His realistic and amazingly detailed collection of characters featuring many iconic figures exposes a side of them we’ve never seen or imagined. Check out some of my favorites and visit his store if you want to purchase some prints…

Daily Dishonesty

TheeBlog-DailyDishonesty Remember that diet you were supposed to start last Monday? No? It’s OK, we all tend to ‘forget’ some of our promises. We’ve all promised lied at one point in our lives, or maybe on a daily basis… when we chat with our significant other, our friends or bosses, these innocent “Of course everyone likes you” or “Oh yeah, it looks nice” sometimes simply just come out. Today I want to share a collection of daily little lies, beautifully designed and illustrated by New York based Designer and Illustrator Lauren Hom called Daily Dishonesty. Each one of these common and true statements and promises is unique and features stunning type and enviable lettering. Bet you never saw better looking lies…

Creepy Cereals by Guillermo Fajardo

TheeBlog-CreepyCereals Cereal has been an important part of breakfast for many years, and with the continued release of new brands, flavors and shapes, there’s a cereal brand/box for everyone. Yes, some of them might be healthier than others or offer more benefits, but when it comes to cereal shopping, Packaging comes first. Lima based Illustrator and Designer, Guillermo Fajardo recently launched a project called Cereal Series, featuring a collection of four satirical iconic cereal boxes – Trix, Frosted Flakes, Cap’n Crunch and Count Chocula – with unique, and very creepy, characters. Check them after the jump!

Darth Vader: What Are You Going to Do Next?

Unless you’ve been living in a galaxy far away, it is no shocking news that Lucas Films – meaning Star Wars – was recently bought by Disney for $4 Billion. Now, I know a few of my friends and probably most of you are not very happy with this. AT ALL. But let’s be honest, can the franchise really do worse than the last three movies? Aware of the collective sentiment and rage, Disney decided to launch a funny (and well done), in-your-face parody of the situation, featuring Darth Vader and two of his Stormtroopers roaming through the park, enjoying the rides and checking out the princesses, all while rubbing this in every hardcore Star Wars fan’s face. Check out Disney’s dark humor…

SHAVE IT!

TheeBlog-ShaveIt11 Animated films have gained a respectable, and well deserved, spot when it comes to movie genres. Every year more and more films are released and continue to improve their audience reach with great stories, impressive animations, effects and a couple of good ‘adult’ jokes hidden in the plot. I’ve been a fan of them since I first watched Toy Story and now that I have kids, I get to enjoy them again (sometimes 70 times a week) SHAVE IT! Is a beautiful new independent short film by Argentina based studio 3dar. It’s the story of a monkey, who accidentally discovers an electric shaver, changes his appearance, moves to the big city and becomes President. I don’t know about you but that plot makes me want to watch it immediately, and once you get to the colors and illustrations, you’re hypnotized by its awesomeness!! Check out a trailer and some of the ‘making of’ sketches and storyboards after the jump…

Creative Catharsis by Sharp Suits

TheeBlog-SharpSuits I believe the saying goes, “Common sense is the least common of all senses”, and unfortunately, this is very true. I know many retail and customer service professionals deal with mind-boggling requests, arguments and comments regularly but we ‘creatives’ also get our fair share of WTF? gems almost on a daily basis. Oh, and there is no discrimination… these gems could come from your sales team, ‘marketing gurus’, account executives, and of course…. clients. To celebrate? these frustrating gems, Sharp Suits launched a great collaborative exhibition called A Creative Catharsis featuring a collection of posters created by Ireland Designers. Check out some of these great and oh so real posters after the jump…

Miami Heat Intro 12/13

TheeBlog-MiamiHeat_IntroLBJ I was recently at a Miami Heat game with my son and got to enjoy some of the awesome arena food (try the chili fries), overpriced drinks, Heat dancers of course, and one specific treat I look forward to every year. The Heat Intro Video. Don’t know if it’s because I’m a visual guy always looking for good work and inspiration or because I am an excited fan, but these videos always hit the spot for me. It gets me pumped! (It also helps to have a badass Championship team) The new intro, directed by Miami’s own Gil Green dropped last year’s Kanye+neon style and went simpler, badder and in your face, featuring great shots of the team working out, showing off skills and reminding other teams we’re going for that third ring! All this, accompanied by lovely effects, a cool alley set, strobes! and a great track by The White Stripes (Seven Nation Army) which will make you feel you can jump to the court and kick some ass. Check out the video after the jump, I’m sure it’ll get you ready for the weekend…

City of Possibilities

TheeBlog-CityofPossibilities While watching Election Day coverage and flipping through channels, I found a commercial during a CNN break that immediately caught my attention and made me stop, rewind and watch it twice (second one with my kids). I mean, when a company goes way out of their ’safety zone’ or expected ads and hires a brilliant agency like The Mill NY, the results are magical! Norfolk Southern’s latest ad called “City of Possibilities” is an impressive and beautiful Live-Action/CGI ode to creativity and that child we all have inside. The ad, produced, designed and directed by The Mill NY, features a combination of awesome custom-made toys and lovely animation that I am sure will make you smile. Check the video after the jump AND a cool behind the scenes feature!

The famous Steve Jobs’ yacht

TheeBlog-SteveJobsYacht We all remember Steve Jobs as a humble and simple genius. Although he was one of the most powerful men in the Universe, he loved to stay below the radar and his iconic style – he practically trademarked the black turtle-neck+New Balance kicks look – was a constant reminder of it. But what very few people knew, until its announcement last year and its mention in his biography book, was that Jobs had been working closely with French designer Philippe Starck on a personal project he unfortunately never got to see finished. VENUS is Steve Jobs impressive yacht and it was unveiled last month in Holland. Forget all yachts and boats you’ve seen before, as this -like everything Jobs created- will raise the bar pretty high.

Air New Zealand + The Hobbit

TheeBlog-AirNewZealandHobbit Let’s face it, airplane safety videos are dull, boring and sometimes annoying (and painful, like those old 90s videos AmericanAirlines still plays). Yes, I know they can save lives but we’re not here to make sense are we? But wait, not all airlines have this “who gives a shit” attitude when it comes to their onboard experience. Jet Blue and Virgin Airlines, for example, have turned me not only into a customer but a fan as well. Last year I had the chance of flying Virgin and watched what until today, was the coolest and funnest safety video I had seen. Today, I want to share a new addition to the cool safety video club, courtesy of Air New Zealand. Their fun and over-the-top Hobbit inspired feature shows how something so dull as a safety video could be turned into a fun and entertaining experience with just a bit of caring. Check out the video after the jump!
