90s Nostalgia

Like many of you, I really don’t like Internet Explorer. It’s cumbersome, unreliable and worst of all, forces us to work extra/harder. But now that Microsoft has decided to copy Apple ‘evolve’, new promo spots and advertising has been popping up everywhere. And to my surprise, the spot I want to share today is actually good! (Considering most of their print ads are blatant copies of Apple and iPad ads). This new ad spot wants to re-introduce us to the new and ‘grown-up’ Internet Explorer by taking us back in time to the 90s - this ad might not make much sense if you were born in the 2000s – and featuring items, toys, technology and shoes (Pumps & LA Lights!!!) we grew up with.
Ahhh the good ol’ days…

Luxury Amazon Floating Hotels

TheeBlog-FloatingHotel One of the many treats of growing up in South America was vast variety of climates, regions and proximity to neighboring countries. To celebrate our middle school graduation, my class and I took a school trip deep into the Amazonas River and the beautiful Ecuadorian rain forest that surrounds it. It was an experience I will never forget – and strongly recommend it!. One of the coolest experiences from that trip was definitely our ‘floating hotel’. These hotels smoothly navigate through rivers, providing breath-taking views of nature and landscapes, and taking you places only boats or natives could get to. I recently found an article and was glad to learn that these hotels still exist, and are now ‘luxuring’ things up. M/V Aria and M/V Aqua are Peru’s first luxury floating hotels and are putting a spin on jungle vacations.

A new look for 7-Eleven

TheeBlog-New711 Last week we witnessed the first large – and very questioned – corporation rebrand of 2013 courtesy of American Airlines (HERE). Today, we have another iconic american (Texas originated) corporation rebrand – well, it is actually more of a semi-rebrand as it only applies to the European (Swedish) market. 7-Eleven collaborated with Swedish Design agency BVD to rebrand the company’s coffee concept for its Swedish market. The result, a very modern/retro new look, emphasizing the brand’s colors (I’ve never been a fan of that green and orange) and merging them with contrasting geometric elements, creating a clean and effective solution. With a 70s twist.

The new American Airlines

TheeBlog-AmericanAirlines With so many tasteless and unsuccessful rebrands lately, I must admit I was a bit anxious yesterday when I read about American Airlines releasing a new look “very soon”. Not because I am a fan or a frequent AA flyer (I try to avoid it like I do Lindsay Lohan) but because deep down I knew this would not be good. You see, there’s this inexplicable obsession with shinny-3D bullshit going around, and unfortunately, it is devouring what’s left of those great iconic and legendary logos many generations grew up with. The new look features a new “evolved” icon more fitted for a small private jet company, and a few changes including new gradients, and as-american-as-you-can-get aircraft graphics.

Google News

TheeBlog-GoogleNews As an avid news reader, I am always looking for good information sources to be informed and up to date when it comes to current events but mainly because it helps me grow in many different ways. Thanks to technology, it is now easier than ever to get your news fix from your favorite sources like Huffington Post, New York Times, Bloomberg Businessweek, (Sorry, unfortunately there is no worthy newspaper down here in Miami) anytime, anywhere. Google, wanting to capitalize even more on this trend, collaborated with Brand New School to create a sweet new campaign promo featuring some of its latest features and great animation. The result… a great, cheeky, and engaging spot!

Dumb Ways to Die

TheeBlog-DumbWaysToDie It’s Friday! And let’s be honest, a few of us will eventually do some dumb things over the weekend, like watching Maid in Manhattan on TBS, attempt to fix our electrical wiring at home or simply get a bit wasted at a club. So, to prevent any tragedies and to simply remind ourselves to be safe and use common sense from time to time, I want to share a fun video I recently discovered and loved! “Dumb Was to Die” is a brilliant PSA by Metro Trains Melbourne combining safety with fun (yet dumb) situations, lovely characters, a very catchy jingle and subtle-yet-impressive design and animations. If you’ve been thinking about eating super glue, outrunning a train, selling your kidneys on the internet or pushing that red button… watch this video! It will definitely entertain you (and have you singing the jingle the rest of the day) but it might also save your life :)

Beautiful Type work by Lo Siento

TheeBlog-LoSiento You all know well my passion and love for Type, and how I’m always learning and looking for inspiration. Last night, a student introduced me to the brilliant work of Spain based Design studio Lo Siento and it was love at first sight. Their complete body of work is beautiful but, their Type work is truly impressive! Their intricate, detailed and oh so beautiful type experiments perfectly combine architecture, geometry, creativity and a deep love for letters, creating lovely multi-layered and 4D pieces. Check out some of my favorite projects after the jump and visit their site for more inspiration.

Pinokio

TheeBlog-Pinokio Remember the sweet and fun Pixar lamp? As a kid, I always wanted one – OK, I still would love one! – and wondered if it would ever make it to production and shelves… Well, today I want to introduce PINOKIO, an impressive and friendly robot-lamp created by Adam Ben-Dror, Shanshan Zhou and Joss Dogget, three Victoria University of Wellington students who combined talents to bring an everyday object, a lamp, to life. Check out the impressive video and some ‘making of’ specs after the jump!

A concept new look for Facebook

TheeBlog-FacebookRebrandConcept So, 2013 is here and I am sure we will see a fair share of good and bad corporate ‘rebrands’. And speaking of rebranding, a cool and interesting trend that has developed over the last couple of years is the self-initiated, conceptual corporate rebrand by Designers all over the world. In short, these are conceptual case studies created by Designers who do more than just complain about ugly design or the need for an aesthetic update. Fred Nerby, an Australia based Interactive Art Director & Designer, is one of these Designers who decided to take matter into his own hands and give Facebook a new look. Big kudos to Fred for a great new UX/UI design(although I am not a fan of the Windows 8 look) and a very detailed and very well planned study. Check out his study after the jump!

Virgin does it again…

TheeBlog-VirginAirlinesHeroes There are many reasons why Virgin Airlines and its divisions are some of the best in the business. (Number 1 in my radar. Get it… radar…) Many perfectly combined factors like strong and very well executed branding, impeccable, fun, and comfortable planes and impressive customer service and in-flight experience come together to create the image and company many love. Another crucial factor has to be their marketing and advertising campaigns. I know we’ve shared a few in this blog, and today is no exception. Virgin’s newest campaign video called “Flying in the face of ordinary” features a group of extraordinary kids with supernatural abilities – Yes, of course these are all Virgin employees :) Think of it as a mix between X-Men and Heroes, with a twist of Richard Branson.
