The awesomeness of ReplaceFace

TheeBlog-Replaceface

Many Hollywood celebrities have played numerous roles throughout their career, but have you ever imagined Steve Jobs, Matt Damon, Dave Grohl or even Robert Pattinson as Army Generals? Russian Generals? Well, Steve Payne has! Steve used old Russian General portraits painted by English artists George Dawe during Napoleon’s invasion of Russia and combined them with current celebrities portraits to create an awesome new site called RaplaceFace featuring a sweet collection of these ‘Photoshop paintings’. Check out some of my favorite after the jump!

Sky Art by Thomas Lamadieu

TheeBlog-SkyArt We all love a beautiful, clear sky. And most of us enjoy architecture. So, what happens when you combine both? Well, french artist Thomas Lamadieu decided to do it, creating a perfect canvas for his illustrations. The ‘negative’ space between facades comes to live as Lamadieu perfectly fills it up with lovely illustrations and characters. Check out some photos after the jump!

The Human Printer

TheeBlog-HumanPrinter Have you ever tried to explain the meaning of CMYK and process of ‘printing’ to someone who is not very familiar with these terms? Chances are you’ll get a confused look and the typical ‘wait, you mean this photo is only 4 colors?’ question. Digital printers combine millions of color dots to create images and photos. Now, imagine recreating this entire process by hand… Well, the folks at Stinsensqueeze did. The Human Printer is a University of Derby design collaboration project which reproduces CMYK and halftone print methods by hand. One dot at a time… Yes, it does sound a bit painful, but the results are impressive. Check out some samples after the jump!

FITC 2013 Titles

TheeBlog-FITC_titles2 Last week I shared the beautiful conference titles for Semi-Permanent by the talented Danny Yount and talked about the huge visual impact and inspiration conference titles and graphics offer. Today I want to share yet another masterpiece, this time, created by another extremely talented Director and Graphic Artist, Portland based Nando Costa. The titles for this year’s FITC Conference featured an interesting combination of dissected insects, stunning motion graphics, video and type treatments in a very eerie and intense way generating that weird yet cool feeling only certain videos can achieve. Think NIN or Fincher’s Se7en. Check out the video after the jump!

Arrested Development records

TheeBlog-ArrestedDevelopment With the news of a new Arrested Development season – and movie – coming soon, I have to admit I’ve been re-watching all episodes and yes, I still laugh at the same jokes. In fact, I know many of you are probably doing the same, so today I want to share a post dedicated to the Bluth family and each one of its members. Wisconsin based Designer Josh Cox recently released a cool personal project featuring characters of the show in a cool retro way, inspired by the beautiful work of Ty Mattson for Homeland (Here). Check them out after the jump and if you have never watched Arrested Development, you must check it out. You’ll understand they hype…

Real Beauty Sketches

TheeBlog-DoveBeautySketches If there’s a company that knows how to create successful viral and empowering campaigns, it has to be Dove. Their approach to beauty, very different than what the media has sold us, has set them apart from the competition, and their campaigns, including the one I want to share today, have the power to open our eyes and realize that we must embrace our traits and differences as we are all different, and great. Real Beauty Sketches is a new campaign aiming to change the way we look, think and feel about ourselves. Congrats to Dove for such a great concept and a beautifully executed ‘experiment’.

Stunning caves by Gregory Boratyn

TheeBlog-GregoryBoratyn_Caves I must admit that when it comes to isolated caves, I might be as courageous as a 9 year old girl. Unless they look as beautiful as the caves photographed by the talented Gregory Boratyn. Ok, maybe still a little scared… Boratyn’s photographs feature impressive caves, which when combined with light, shadows and vibrant colors turn into stunning masterpieces. Check out these beautiful photos after the jump…

Playing With Food

TheeBlog-PlayingWithFood Remember when your mom used to tell you not to play with your food? Well, that rule still applies, unless you’re feeling adventurous in the bedroom (or dungeon) OR if you are as talented as Malaysian artist-architect, Hong Yi. Mostly known as “Red”, Hong Yi creates stunning pieces of art utilizing various elements and objects. One of her latest projects, ‘31 Days of Creativity with Food’, features different scenarios ranging from popular stories like 3 Little Pigs to iconic art pieces like Warhol’s Campbells can or Munch’s painting The Scream, all created using food!!!
