The Generic Brand Video

So, your client ‘comes up with the idea’ to create a corporate video. You know, one just like their competitor or that one they saw online. So, you gather up your team, you brainstorm ideas, study the client in order to create something unique and that represents them. You pitch it. But, the client already has a ‘vision’. So, after a few meetings, you just go with it. The result, another generic brand video…

TMNT

Because most of us grew up watching Ninja Turtles. I wonder if this movie is going to be as awesome as the original ones – specially the one featuring Vanilla Ice…

Android Wear

TheeBlog-AndroidWear While everyone is still wondering how Google Glass works or who has been able to get a pair in order to experience them, Google has been busy working on its new toy. A new watch that promises to make all things look and work better, and beat all other smart watches like Samsung or Motorola. Android Wear is Google’s new baby, and its interface, released last week, is nice, simple and effective. Check out some samples and a video after the jump.

The GameChanger

TheeBlog-TheGameChanger The World Cup is only 83 days away!!! And if you are like me, you’re already looking for extra DVR storage alternatives, planning out your sports bar itinerary and times and letting everyone know that you will be busy and disconnected for a month. One thing I do hate during the tournament is asking every restaurant or bar to switch replays of college golf tournament broadcasts to live World Cup games – it happens. But hey! Now there’s a solution for that! The geniuses at beIN Sports developed a vuvuzela with the ability to flip any channel, to their station, giving us football fans the power (at least for one happy month)!

Locos Por Juana or Juanes

TheeBlog-LocosPorJuana_Juanes So, the other day, while shopping at Target, I strolled through the electronics department and heard a familiar song on the display TVs that made me stop and go back to make sure it was the song I thought I knew. It wasn’t. It was a very, very, very close one. In fact, it even shared the same title, and what got me… the same look. Most of you know the work/logo I designed for my good friends Locos Por Juana, and the close tie and love I got for this killer band. So, when I realized that the song that I thought was theirs, was in fact, a new global single by a more ‘commercial’ artist like Juanes, I wanted to share my view on it, because I feel it somehow relates to what us Designers have to deal with often. Again, this is my take on it, and don’t hate me if you are a Juanes fan. I’m just saying…

The Grand Budapest Hotel

THE GRAND BUDAPEST HOTEL recounts the adventures of Gustave H, a legendary concierge at a famous European hotel between the wars, and Zero Moustafa, the lobby boy who becomes his most trusted friend. In short, another lovely classic from Wes Anderson featuring stunning sets, moods and lots of design.

Blood, Sweat & Tears

TheeBlog-BloodSweatTears Continuing with yesterday’s inspiring Type goodness, today I want to share a project launched by the Art Directors Club, featuring twelve talented designers and illustrators including Alex Trochut, Jen Mussari, Jordan Metcalf, Kyle Read. The project, aimed to promote this year’s Portfolio Night, showcases the countless hours, sleepless nights, killed ideas and ambitious drive that go into crafting the perfect piece, through a collection of beautiful individual interpretations of the phrase Blood, Sweat and Tears.

Do Not Open

TheeBlog-DoNotOpen I know I’ve said many times before that Type and good lettering could make the world a cooler, nicer, happier place. To prove my theory, today I want to share a beautiful series of custom hand-lettered envelopes featuring the always inspiring lettering work of San Francisco based, Erik Marinovich. Do Not Open is a personal project Erik began as ‘thank you notes’ to colleagues and friends. The great response and internet love these envelopes received, inspired Erik to open it to the world and make it ‘official’. Check out some samples after the jump…

Star Wars Tapestry

TheeBlog-StarWars_Tapestry00 When it comes to Star Wars we’ve seen many things, Star Wars posters, shoes, toys, paintings, clothing, sex toys, and conventions. But something I have never seen is a Star Wars cross-stitched tapestry. A 30ft. long tapestry featuring the entire saga (Episodes 1-6), to be exact. British Designer Aled Lewis created this massive piece which was recently showcased at Gallery 1988 in LA, and that is available, listen up fanboys, for $20,000. Check it out after the jump!

GitHub Headquarters

TheeBlog-GitHub_Office It’s been a while since we feature cool office spaces, and with shows like Scandal or House of Cards, I figured GitHub’s San Francisco Headquarters would be the perfect office to feature. Why, you ask? Well, not only does this 55,000 square foot office come with pool tables, an amphitheater used for presentations and events or a restaurant-sized speakeasy liquor bar. It also features meeting rooms ‘themed’ like the ones at the White House, and perhaps the coolest reception lobby you will ever find. A full replica of the White House’s oval office. Yup, enough said.

Finger Painting Morgan Freeman

Although I’ve never tried it, I’ve always seen people drawing and painting on their iPad, specially at airports or during flights. One thing I had never seen, extremely photorealistic paintings like this crazy Morgan Freeman portrait by iPad artist (can we use that term?) Kyle Lambert. Using only a finger, an iPad Air and the app Procreate, Lambert paints a detailed portrait of Morgan Freeman so good that -let’s be honest- you might actually question its veracity. Only thing that could possibly make this video cooler? A step-by-step narration by Morgan Freeman!

Sagmeister x Walsh x Adobe

TheeBlog-SagmeisterWalsh_Adobe We all know the genius that is Stefan Sagmeister, and his ability to always raise the bar or push the envelope. So, when Adobe asked Stefan and his partner Jessica Walsh to create interpretive solutions of their logo, they came up with a game show. The 5 episode show features a series of fun challenges, a panel of judges including Joshua Davis, Stefan Bucher, Jessica Hische, Noreen Morioka, and funny host Todd Newton. As always, another successful idea and execution by Sagmeister. Check out the episodes after the jump!

HUVr

TheeBlog-HUVr If you grew up watching Back to the Future – or if you’ve been introduced to the saga by friends, mere curiosity or the buzz – you know what a hoverboard is. In fact, you’ve been dreaming and asking Santa for one every Christmas since 1989. Or maybe that’s just me… Well, good news. MIT geniuses along with a couple of celebrities including Doc Brown, Tony Hawk and Moby recently got together to experience and introduce the world to HUVr, the first, real, hoverboard. Check the video after the jump!

Graphika Manila 2014

With so many amazing conferences happening around the world, it has become hard to keep track and attend, watch or read about them. So, I’ll try to share some of my favorites here. Today I want to feature one that is celebrating its 9th anniversary and that has become a must for creatives - If you haven’t heard of Graphika Manila you have some catching up to do… PLUS! as a special bonus for its 2014 edition, my amazingly badass and talented good friend Sara Blake was invited (Hell yeah Sara!), along with top talent including Ash Thorpe, The Mill, Dvein, and Jessica Hische. Missed it? Check out this cool event video courtesy of the folks at Kakampi.

Wood Sculptures by Randall Rosenthal

TheeBlog-RandallRosenthal I’m sure that at one point in life, you were given the “Money doesn’t grow on trees” lecture. Well, today I am here to differ, and prove that money could grow-er be made of trees. New York based Randall Rosenthal is an extremely talented sculptor whose ├╝ber realistic wood sculptures could easily fool any of us. His detailed work includes boxes full of money, newspapers, magazines and comic books. Oh, and they are all made from a solid piece of wood – and without any photographic guides or reference. Yes, he’s THAT good.
