Dishollywood

TheeBlog-Dishollywood When it comes to Disney characters and artists, there seems to be this weird yet very interesting infatuation. It seems that the idea of turning something wholesome and utopian into something a bit more obscure and ‘real’ inspires many artists to share their view on different topics. Today I want to share the provocative work of Mexican artist José Rodolfo Loaiza Ontiveros. His latest collection, called Dishollywood combines Disney and Hollywood characters with hints of pop culture and events to create great though provoking pieces. Check out some of these after the jump!

Nike World Cup Ads

The World Cup is almost here! (44 days if you want to get specific) and as you can imagine, beautiful and exciting ad spots are appearing everywhere daily. I mean, when it comes to advertising and promotion, you can’t really escape a phenomenon like this (Unless you live in the US), and that is a great thing! And when you think of great campaigns and spots, NIKE always manages to stay on top of the game with impressive and brilliantly executed ideas. The theme and campaign for this World Cup is Risk Everything, and its latest ad, featuring players like Ronaldo, Neymar, Ibrahimovic, Rooney, Higuain, Howard, Pirlo, Iniesta, and a couple more is pure magic as it takes you back to school days games (You know you and your friends always personified your favorite players). Check out more videos after the jump!

What Clients Don’t Know

Let’s be honest. We’ve all had at least one or two, or many clients from hell. But looking back, and after watching this brilliant talk by Mike Monteiro called What Clients Don’t Know (and Why It’s Your Fault), you realize that it may not always be their fault – and that we might be somewhat responsible for their perception and behavior towards Design. But just for the record, sometimes they are just plain wrong – and it’s all their fault. Just saying…

Amnesty Freedom Candles

TheeBlog_AmnestyCandles Globally admired artistic duo ‘coarse’ has partnered with Amnesty International to tackle torture, arms trade and sexual slavery with 30 limited edition “Freedom Candles” up for eBay auction April 19 – 27th. Each candle highlights a human rights injustice that unfortunately might be taking place around the world as we read this. These powerful candles serve as a reminder of these horrible injustices, yet also work as a beacon of hope that reveals once the candles melt.

The STOLEN SOFAS Project

TheeBlog-StolenSofas If there’s something that I honestly enjoy as much as a well designed and consistent brand, is the vision and dedication to get involved, support, and be part of a community. And this is exactly what the great folks at Stolen Rum are doing. Not only is their product great and beautifully designed (you had me at lettering and type) but it’s also very active. One of their latest projects, Stolen Sofas, took place last week in three different cities around the world, including Miami, and it was not only a brilliant simple idea, but also a great way to introduce Stolen Rum to a new market. I was not able to attend the event, but my awesome Stolen friend Eunique was kind enough to share some photos and video. Thank you again E! and we’re looking forward to many more fun events and projects!

Adobe Remix by The Made Shop

TheeBlog-MadeShop_Adobe You’ve probably noticed that many designers, artists and brands are embracing a different, more hands-on approach to their work and projects more and more – and this is great! And although I hate to use the word, this crafty ‘trend’ is based on skills, innovative methods of communicating a message, fresh ideas, and lots of manual labor and materials. What more can we ask for!? Adobe recently commissioned The Made Shop to re-imagine their logo, which gave them free range to get creative and tap on their architectural background. The result, a lovely collection of logos made out of pencils, water, flowers, gum, coffee, and sugar.

Europe in 8 Bits

EUROPE IN 8 BITS is a documentary that explores the world of chip music, a new musical trend that is growing exponentially throughout Europe. The stars of this musical movement reveal to us how to reuse old videogames hardware like Nintendo’s GameBoy, NES, Atari ST, Amiga and the Commodore 64 to turn them into a tool capable of creating a new sound, a modern tempo and an innovative musical style. This is a new way of interpreting music performed by a great many artists who show their skills in turning these “limited” machines designed for leisure in the 80’s into surprising musical instruments and graphical tools. It will leave nobody indifferent.

Designer Dirty Talk

TheeBlog-DesignerDirtyTalk When it comes to Designers, certain things are usually different than the rest of corporate America. One of them is definitely industry lingo (Have you ever tried to explain tracking/kerning or golden ratio to a client?) Have you ever wondered what would these everyday terms sound like when used as pick-up lines or bedroom talk? Good news. A new brilliant site called Designer Dirty Talk features a collection of clever and funny design puns that do just that. Check out a few samples after the jump, visit the site or submit your own…
