Chuck Taylor II – Evolution of a classic

TheeBlog_ChuckII Chances are, most of us own – or did at least once – a pair of classic Chuck Taylors. And if you think about it, the model never changed. Yes, there were different colors, special editions and collaborations, but the shoe was always the same. Well, after 90 long years, Converse is releasing the new and improved Chuck Taylor All Star II. And although this limited edition is already sold out, expect to see this new model available in stores soon…

Hypnotic Gifs by Florian de Looij

There’s something special about animated GIFs, specially when they’re as intricate and hypnotic as these, created by Netherlands based Designer Florian de Looij. I personally, was never a big fan of Geometry - who is? but it is good to know that geometry, shapes, curves and lines can be used for a good and valuable purpose instead of booooring construction, engineering, etc. I know, I know… :)

Suicide Squad!

While some studios think leaked trailers ruin their plans, I believe they help films get tons of publicity, promotion and traction (Just look at what happened with Deadpool). Frustrated about not being able to stop the leak and insane web exposure of the secret Comic Con intended trailer for Suicide Squad, Warner Bros. president Sue Kroll decided to release the trailer in HD, to make sure that people share it and watch it the way it is supposed to be enjoyed. And let me say, it looks like it’s going to be a fun film! And for the record, again, I truly think that Jared Leto will be a GREAT Joker! Yes, I said it…

Before there was Photoshop

I’m pretty sure we’ve all heard the famous “in my day…” at least once during our career. But when it comes to Design, there really is a before and after. Particularly when we talk about the difference computers made in this industry. Some of us are too young to even know most of the old tools, and methods. Some of us are the type of masochist – like myself – that would learn and experiment with them out of love for the craft or to learn more about Design. Lynda, in collaboration with Sean Adams, released a video demonstrating what it took to design a simple ad before there was any computers or Adobe applications. If you’re definition of old design tools starts with Adobe CS3, I suggest you check out this video :)

Meet Atlanta United FC

TheeBlog_AtlantaUnitedFC As you probably already know – unless you are living under a rock – soccer continues to grow in the US, and prove of that is the constant expansion of the MLS. With new teams being added to the league – New York City and Orlando got their teams this year, Atlanta and LA are getting theirs in 2017 and Miami… we’ll, we’re still crossing our fingers :( it is great to see soccer spreading around the country. You may also remember my case study on my version of Miami’s team branding HERE. Well, today I want to share another MLS branding project (this one is not mine) that was announced yesterday. Meet the new Atlanta United FC.

Stunning Photography by Pierre Dal Corso

TheeBlog-PierreDalCorso We all know Fashion Photography is a tough, tricky business. I mean, if the Photographer is missing that special ’something’ or a unique style, their work might be at risk of being lost amongst a sea of photographers and books out there. Well, luckily for us, Paris based Fashion Photographer Pierre Dal Corso tends to play and experiment with styles, techniques and ideas, A LOT, making his work unique and memorable. His photos combine the right amount of color, lighting and sexiness! But don’t let me tell you, check out some of his work… BTW, there might be a few NSFW photos.

Alphabet of the Countries

TheeBlog_AlphabetofCountries When it comes to logos and branding, we all have different ideas, preferences and taste… but I believe that most of us can agree that ‘country logos’ are usually not the best – specially those who still think that a cutesy hand/brush rendered wordmark surrounded by 75 colors works. Russian designer Pavel Zertsikel explored a different approach, designing custom lettering logos for different countries while creating a lovely alphabet series. His project Alphabet of the Countries is not finished yet, but as you’ll see after the jump, it’s off to a GREAT start!

CREED

When it comes to boxing and showmanship, there’s only one name that comes to mind. Apollo Creed, baby! Remember that extravagant pre-fight ring party featuring James Brown… Until the Russians came and well, the rest is history. But if you grew up in the 80s and 90s, you should be as excited as I am because Creed is back! Well, not Apollo, his son is. Along with the man and legend, ROCKY! Pardon my excitement but I was a huge Rocky fan – who wasn’t? Anyway, here’s the trailer…
