Muhammad Ali by Louis Vuitton

TheeBlog-LouisVuitton-MuhammadAli It is a sad day for sports. So, I thought I would bring back this post featuring the Greatest of All Time. Rest in peace King — I’m pretty sure you’ve seen those lovely Louis Vuitton ads featuring iconic celebrities, politicians and artists. Yes, they are great, but this new Core Values campaign, featuring the All-Time Greatest, is simply gorgeous! Muhammad Ali – The Greatest Words is a tribute to the champ, beginning with a series of videos featuring the impressive calligraphy of Niels Shoe Meulman and a mesmerizing performance by Poet Yasiin Bey (Mos Def). The videos, created by Ogilvy Paris are beautifully directed and the combination of type, music, historic Ali quotes and powerful delivery by Mos Def is exquisite. Enjoy!

Semi-Permanent Sydney 2015 Titles

Semi Permanent is well known for its great events around the world, inspiring speakers and captivating titles which seem to get better year after year. Title designer Raoul Marks’ extraordinary opener for Semi-Permanent Sydney 2015 visualizes the challenges that any creator faces when trying to do what they do: create. The sequence, which is essentially a short film, wears its influences proudly on its Ortho-Fabric sleeve — from the isolating paintings of artist Jeremy Geddes and the otherworldly imagery of Kubrick and Scott, to the Neo Tokyoite architecture of Katsuhiro Otomo and even Space Race-era issues of LIFE Magazine.

Illustrating New York City’s Subway Stations

To put it lightly, Philip Ashforth Coppola loves New York City’s subway stations. For the past 38 years, the New Jersey-based illustrator has been exploring the Big Apple’s underground stations and sketching its mosaics in amazing detail with just a ballpoint pen. In 1984, Copp published his first volume of subway drawings, “Silver Connections.” He continues to document the city’s underground, but doesn’t expect to finish until 2040. Keep at it Phil!

Pepsi 1893

TheeBlog_Pepsi1893 Pepsi has suffered a couple of fails over the years. Remember when they burned Michael Jackson’s hair? Their ridiculous rebrand? Or their recent fiasco during their Back to the Future bottle release? Yet, their latest attempt at being cool might be a little too much, even for them. Pepsi has announced their new artisanal cola (yes, I had to check to make sure it was not an Onion or SNL joke) in order to market to… you guessed it. Millennials! – Yup, that damn term again :/ Check out the photos and video after the jump…

Graphic Means Trailer

It’s been roughly 30 years since the desktop computer revolutionized the way the graphic design industry works. For decades before that, it was the hands of industrious workers, and various ingenious machines and tools that brought type and image together on meticulously prepared paste-up boards, before they were sent to the printer. Graphic Means will explore graphic design production of the 1950s through the 1990s—from linecaster to photocomposition, and from paste-up to PDF. Can’t wait for this one!

Rihanna + Drake + Design

By now, I am sure you’ve heard Rihanna’s new song “WORK” or seen her new video featuring Drake. BUT, what I had not seen and what I wanted to share today is their recent performance at The Brit Awards, mainly for the lovely use of design + projection used to complement the performance. In a world when sometimes more is more, it is very refreshing and inspiring to see how simplicity and good design can also work to create beautiful sets and impactful shows.

The New Walden

TheeBlog_TheNewWalden I am a huge believer that personal projects are essential for personal and professional development. Not only do they help us grow by keeping us constantly active, but they also help us balance work, time and yes, even stay fresh. So, when I found out that my good bud Matt Steel launched an ambitious Kickstarter project, I had to share it, specially with all you book lovers here. Matt’s goal is to reach enough funding to create an newly edited hardcover adaptation of Henry David Thoreau’s WALDEN. Check out the project’s video after the jump!

Roman Mars on Flag Design

Roman Mars is obsessed with flags — and after you watch this talk, you might be, too. These ubiquitous symbols of civic pride are often designed, well, pretty terribly. But they don’t have to be. In this surprising and hilarious talk about vexillology — the study of flags — Mars reveals the five basic principles of flag design and shows why he believes they can be applied to just about anything.

Hi, I’m Scott

TheeBlog-KidCudi_TED I’ve always believed that we are all talented and creative. The only difference sometimes is the level of drive and passion we put into achieving our goals. What makes a truly great logo

Happy New Year friends!!! It is the first post of 2016, and to celebrate the new year – and to hopefully start it n the right foot, I wanted to share this video I found during the break. With so many logo controversies last year, and the few that might come this year, Joe Posner created a helpful video in collaboration with Michael Bierut, that reviews what a logo is or isn’t, what it represents, and what it needs in order to be successful. It’s always good to review the basics every now and then, and what better time than the first week of the year. Enjoy!

Sneakerheadz. The Documentary.

TheeBlog_Sneakerheadz You know that saying “You can always judge a man by his shoes”? Well, it is true. Shoes have the power to represent who we are or how we feel. And although that saying was probably meant for men rocking brogues or double monk-straps, now you can tell a lot about people by their sneakers. You can say I am a humble collector based on the pairs of NIKE sneakers I own, and yes, I admit I’ve gone out of my way and perhaps spent good money on special sneakers, but I’m not even close to the level of dedication and serious money sneakerheads are willing to invest. What once sounded “crazy” is now a lifestyle. A very lucrative and passionate lifestyle…
