You might remember my post last week about Social Media Week (HERE) Well, I had the opportunity to attend (and LiveStream) a few interesting and inspiring panel discussions ranging from Tourism to Branding, Music and Fashion and learn from different organizations and experts the effect social media offers their campaigns and the impact it has over consumers and society. I can honestly say I learned a few tricks and had the pleasure of meeting amazingly talented friends and a couple of readers :) It was a great week full of knowledge, sharing, learning and networking and I can’t wait to attend next year! Check out some photos after the jump…

THEE BLOG – Guest Speaker at IADT
Last week, I received an invitation from an old friend and now Design instructor to guest speak at his Design Process at IADT course and share with his students some of my work and experiences over the years in this business. I was honored and gladly accepted the invitation, and last night I had the opportunity to share my presentation with a great group of students who (I think/hope) enjoyed it. I wanted to officially thank you guys for your time and comments and Mr. Trutt for inviting me, I had a blast and I look forward to seeing your work soon!

You might remember my post last week about Kyle Durrie’s Type Truck visiting Miami (HERE) I had the pleasure of stopping by and meeting the very nice and sweet Kyle, play with some type, create my own MIAMI print and chat about her inspiring idea, her tour and the beautiful art of print. Thank you again Kyle and hope to have you back in Miami soon. Check out some photos after the jump…

National Handwriting Day
In case you didn’t know, today is National Handwriting Day. I’ll give you a minute to update your calendar… ready? OK. As most of you know (specially those following on Facebook) I am a full-on lettering, calligraphy, handwriting geek so I felt obligated to do my part and take 5 minutes away from the computer and write something out. Let’s admit it, we’re not even close to be as good as Hische, Bantjes or Tanamachi but it’s all about going back to basics, playing with ink & paper and having some fun…

Type Truck is coming to town!
I’m sure most of you know or have heard about Kyle Durrie’s Type Truck and her inspiring idea of touring the country teaching workshops, doing demos, and generally spreading the good word about printing the old fashioned way. Well, the Type Truck is finally coming to Miami this week and I am excited to share this with you not only because it is an excellent opportunity to network and meet creative people, but also because it is time we get together and work as a Design community to bring home more fun and inspiring events like this one. So, if you are in Miami, like Letterpress and design and want to get involved, mark your calendar and come by! Would love to meet some of you in person :)

Here Comes The Neighborhood

I know most of you who made it to Basel this weekend are, like me, having withdrawals and want even more visual inspiration. Yesterday I shared some photos and talked about WYNWOOD, and how this small and previously abandoned ‘hood’ is slowly becoming a prime spot for art, culture and expression during Basel each year (and every month during Wynwood Art Walk). Well, today I want to dig deeper and share with you (specially out-of-towners) what WYNWOOD is all about, who, why and how it all started. Allow me to introduce you to ‘Here Comes The Neighborhood’ a collection of beautifully shot and edited Short-Form Docuseries featuring the history of the Wynwood Walls, interviews with international participating artists and lots of eye candy.

Art Basel 2011 : WYNWOOD

Art Basel Miami Beach is an annual contemporary art exhibition (sister event to Art Basel Switzerland) held in Miami each December, and if you live here or have been here during this event, you know what great and inspiring experience it is. This year Miami was celebrating the 10th Anniversary of Basel and I am happy to say that it keeps getting better each year as it spreads throughout the city and attracts more people and great international artists like Mr. Brainwash, Shepard Fairey, RETNA, Ron English, etc. There’s one specific neighborhood, simply known as Wynwood that it is slowly becoming a MUST during Basel – as well as one of my favorite spots during this time of the year and today I want to share some photos shot this past weekend to give you a little taste of the magic and give you a new excuse to visit Miami :)

Backstage at Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

As a Designer who works in the ‘branding’ field, I have to admit that I admire and respect the folks at Victoria’s Secret for the amazing work they’ve done throughout the years, becoming one of the most recognized brands worldwide and a synonym of beauty, sexiness and elegance. As many of you know, the 2011 VS Fashion Show is airing soon (Nov. 29th – filmed earlier this month). And to prepare for this brilliant event here’s a collection of Behind the Scenes photos taken backstage by Fashion Photographer Billy Rood. If you’ve ever been to a photo shoot, specially Fashion, you know it’s not just about looking beautiful… these girls really work it!

Brand New Conference 2011

As I announced last week, I had the pleasure of traveling to the West Coast to attend the 2011 Brand New Conference in San Francisco. This is the second year the cool cats at Under Consideration (Armin and Bryony) organized this event (last year we gathered in NYC) and it could be easily described as a full day full of inspiring, educational and very entertaining presentations by über talented and respected designers/agencies from all over the world such as Vince Frost (FROST* – Australia), Christopher Simmons (Mine™ – San Francisco), Marina Willer (Wolff Olins – London), Matteo Bologna (MUCCA Design – New York) Alfredo Burga and Claudia Boggio (Infinito – Peru), Jonathan Notaro (Brand New School – New York), Ben Barry and Everett Katigbak (Facebook – California) etc… Yes, I know, and it is OK if you’re feeling jealous right now :) Today I want to share my experience, what I learned, what I liked, who I had the pleasure to meet and of course, a few inspiring quotes by our wonderful speakers.

Toronto Comic Arts Festival: Pencil it In
Although The 2011 Toronto Comic Arts Festival already took place (May 7th and 8th) I still love this promo video showcasing numerous illustrators and a going little deeper than just showing their work. This lovely video features their personalities, preferred ‘tools’ and of course, some mouth-watering illustrations and strokes…

Day at the races…

Every now and then I like to switch things up a bit and slip some personal work or fun stuff I like to share with you. And today is one of those days :) I know most of you might be familiar with racing movies like Fast and The Furious and more specific, Tokyo Drift. Well, this past weekend I had the chance to attend the West Palm Beach leg of the Formula Drift 2011 Pro Championship courtesy of Team Falken -which by the way hooked us up with some really nice VIP passes- allowing us to experience this event from a different perspective by meeting drivers, models :) and teams. As always, I took my camera and snapped some photos I wanted to share, so check them out, and if you have a chance to attend one of these events, do it!

Marian Bantjes at The Wolfsonian

Last Friday I had the chance of attending a discreet event hosted by The Wolfsonian + AIGA Miami featuring none other than the amazing Marian Bantjes. As a Designer and Typography lover, I’ve been a huge fan of Marian’s fearless intricate work and have been following her since I first discovered it a few years ago. There’s something magical about the exquisite way her work flows and the way letters and figures interact with each other, making her pieces unique. Marian’s lecture included bits of her background, her inspiration, the process behind her work and of course, her book, ‘I WONDER’ (A must, if you are a designer/typophile). After her inspiring presentation, I had the chance of meeting and chatting with this talented icon about design, her work and amazing book. It was so great to finally meet yet another one of my design heroes (list is getting shorter!) and discover that she is as fun and interesting as her beautiful work.

Art Basel Miami 2010

You might remember a few photos from Sanrio’s 50th Anniversary at Art Basel Miami 2010 I posted a few weeks ago (here) But today I want to share a few more photos I’ve had lingering since, and that might give you an idea of what Basel has to offer in case you are planning on coming down next year. I am sure I have a few hundred more, and I promise that once I categorize them, I’ll post them… but for now, check them out and hope you enjoy them!

Sanrio 50th Anniversary – Art Basel 2010

As most of you know, Art Basel Miami takes place the first week of December every year and it could easily be considered one of the most, if not the most, important art show in the US. And what better way to celebrate Hello Kitty’s 50th birthday than a colorful and fun exhibition in the heart of Miami’s Design District during Art Basel. The exhibition, curated by Roger Gastman and Zio Fulcher, included a mini-store, free tattoo parlor and art by POSE, Anthony Lister, Shepard Fairey and David McDowell. Now, I know you might be thinking, Hello Kitty…? but hey! Check out the photos I took this weekend and you might understand why Sanrio’s was one of the most talked about exhibitions during Art Basel this year.
