Remember those awesomely hypnotizing automated and extremely overcomplicated machines on movies like The Goonies, Edward Scissorhands or Back to the Future? You know, the type of machines built by combining dominoes, bowling balls, wires and balloons? Well, in case you were not familiar, these inventions are called Rube Goldberg machines (deliberately over-engineered or overdone machine that performs a very simple task in a very complex fashion, usually including a chain reaction). Melvin The Machine is a beautiful portable and traveling machine with a mission, travel the world to meet new friends. And lovely stamped postcards to document it…

Perhaps it is the essence and personality iconic Photographers like Avedon, Leibovitz, Halsman are able to capture and share, or simply the beautifully intriguing contrast of black and white tones combined with impeccable lighting and technique that makes us smile. French Photographer Brigitte Lacombe’s beautiful work is a great example of this. Her passion for portraits is evident in each one of her photos, and has helped her build an enviable portfolio including celebrities including Jack Nicholson, Martin Scorsese, Al Pacino, Helen Mirren and Meryl Streep to name a few. edX
As a strong believer and supporter of continuing education, I think it is imperative to constantly ‘update’ ourselves and utilize any means available to improve as professionals… and human beings. With that being said, today I am excited to share a brilliant education initiative by two of the most recognized Universities in the world that might change the future of education. EdX is a joint partnership between MIT and Harvard University to offer online learning to millions of people around the world. For free. This great joint venture will provide students access to Ivy League professors and real university courses regardless of geographic location or socioeconomic status. The beautiful work of Jon Contino
Do you believe in love at first sight? No? Well, things are about to change because today you’re going to fall in love with the sweet, sweet work of Brooklyn based Jon Contino. Jon’s work perfectly combines the best of both worlds. Beautiful, clean and clever aesthetics with the nostalgia of vintage design, illustration and tones. As a ‘vintage’ geek, I have to say I’ve been in love with Jon’s work since I first saw it a year ago and his admirable type and lettering skills have always been an inspiration. Check out some of his work after the jump!

Silent World
We’ve all had a crazy dream at least once. But how many of us have dreamt about being the last human on earth walking desolated streets or cities ala I am Legend or Vanilla Sky. French and German Photographers Lucy & Simon certainly did, or thought of this when creating their series “Silent World” which features a lovely collection of empty -and eerie iconic landmarks including Times Square, Place de l’Opera, Wall Street, Place de la Concorde and Tian’anmen Square. Enjoy them after the jump!

MARLEY
There is no doubt music has the power to touch and inspire us. And although many songs could bring back memories, heal or simply make you smile, (to me) there are only few performers whose charisma, passion and life could really dig deep, and stay with you for life. Bob Marley is definitely one of them. I witnessed this first hand last year when I visited Jamaica and had the chance to learn more about his origins, life and music. You could really ‘feel’ his music through the mountains and his people… MARLEY is Director Kevin MacDonald’s latest documentary film, which was released last week, featuring the life of Bob, unseen footage and narrations by his close friends and family. A must watch.

Grupo Gallegos is a Huntington Beach based Advertising Agency with not only a great portfolio of work, but one of the coolest headquarters I’ve seen in a while! Their beach based office, an ex-movie theater, was designed by Lorcan O’Herlihy Architects and includes numerous wings, beautiful colors, a basketball court! and did I mention it is steps away from the ocean? Tour it after the jump and share it with your boss… We all deserve creative and inspiring spaces like this!
