You know how people always say that imitation is the biggest form of flattery… bullshit. Last night, thanks to an email from an awesome reader in Australia, I found some douchebags called Roar With Us using some of my ‘just for fun’ personal lettering/type exercises on their portfolio and what’s even worse, attempting to sell it on threadless. While I know copying and stealing work online will probably never stop, I feel like I have to do my part and expose hacks like these. Check out some photos after the jump. Oh! and sorry for the early week rant :)

Behind the Scenes: NYC Photo Shoot
It’s been a while since I posted some of my own work so I decided to share one of my latest fun assignments combining Art Direction, Photography, Fashion and of course, beautiful NYC. The project: a campaign photo shoot for a New York hotel. On this job, I had the pleasure of working with an amazing team of talented professionals including my dear friend and great Photographer Pablo Garcia, Makeup and Hair master Kristen Arnett, the beautiful Ashley Sherrill and my good buddy Lee Dahlberg. These are some of my personal photos and behind the scenes views which hopefully show all the details and hard work behind a shoot like this and a little bit more of what I do :)

Hillman Curtis
As you probably know by now, the news of Hillman Curtis passing spread globally yesterday and as expected, thousands of comments and stories were shared by the many people whose lives he touched in one way or another. I never had the opportunity to meet Hillman, but his work, vision and passion were always a huge inspiration for me and will forever inspire many more designers and artist. THEE BLOG – Guest Speaker at IADT
Last week, I received an invitation from an old friend and now Design instructor to guest speak at his Design Process at IADT course and share with his students some of my work and experiences over the years in this business. I was honored and gladly accepted the invitation, and last night I had the opportunity to share my presentation with a great group of students who (I think/hope) enjoyed it. I wanted to officially thank you guys for your time and comments and Mr. Trutt for inviting me, I had a blast and I look forward to seeing your work soon!

Type Truck Miami
You might remember my post last week about Kyle Durrie’s Type Truck visiting Miami (HERE) I had the pleasure of stopping by and meeting the very nice and sweet Kyle, play with some type, create my own MIAMI print and chat about her inspiring idea, her tour and the beautiful art of print. Thank you again Kyle and hope to have you back in Miami soon. Check out some photos after the jump…

National Handwriting Day
In case you didn’t know, today is National Handwriting Day. I’ll give you a minute to update your calendar… ready? OK. As most of you know (specially those following on Facebook) I am a full-on lettering, calligraphy, handwriting geek so I felt obligated to do my part and take 5 minutes away from the computer and write something out. Let’s admit it, we’re not even close to be as good as Hische, Bantjes or Tanamachi but it’s all about going back to basics, playing with ink & paper and having some fun…

Walking around San Francisco

It’s been a crazy month with lots of unexpected surprises, both good and bad, but we’re still here… still truckin’! Thinking of how great life is and what makes us happy, I wanted to share some personal photos today. I had the fortune of visiting the West Coast recently, San Francisco to be more specific. And yes, I had to take my camera and capture a few photos to share this amazing city from my own designer-perspective. I have many great memories but, the amazing weather, beautiful sunsets, impressive architecture, culture and landscapes (both urban and rural), and our infamous ‘bike the Bridge’ experience (my wife must really love me) are amongst my favorites. Oh, and of course, the impressive Alcatraz Tour and beautiful Napa Valley! Check out some of my favorite photos, hope you enjoy them!

Brand New Conference 2011

As I announced last week, I had the pleasure of traveling to the West Coast to attend the 2011 Brand New Conference in San Francisco. This is the second year the cool cats at Under Consideration (Armin and Bryony) organized this event (last year we gathered in NYC) and it could be easily described as a full day full of inspiring, educational and very entertaining presentations by über talented and respected designers/agencies from all over the world such as Vince Frost (FROST* – Australia), Christopher Simmons (Mine™ – San Francisco), Marina Willer (Wolff Olins – London), Matteo Bologna (MUCCA Design – New York) Alfredo Burga and Claudia Boggio (Infinito – Peru), Jonathan Notaro (Brand New School – New York), Ben Barry and Everett Katigbak (Facebook – California) etc… Yes, I know, and it is OK if you’re feeling jealous right now :) Today I want to share my experience, what I learned, what I liked, who I had the pleasure to meet and of course, a few inspiring quotes by our wonderful speakers.

Brand New Awards + My Locos Por Juana logo!

Today is a special, celebration Friday and I want to share some good news. I recently entered a global Design and Branding competition, The 2010 Brand New Awards organized by the super awesome folks at UnderConsideration, and I am excited to share with you that my entry, Identity/Logo for Locos Por Juana, was selected as one of the winners amongst hundreds of amazing and über creative entries. You might remember me talking about this project a while back (HERE) but if you are new to the site, you can check the link and learn a bit more about the logo and the process behind it :) I’ve been fortunate to collect a few awards throughout my short career but to be recognized and published together with design giants and agencies I admire so much like Johnson Banks, Wolff Ollins, Helms Workshop, Landor and House Industries is a special type of honor!

TheeBlog Q&A Sessions: Maria Argüello

We love apps! Specially when they can help us find the best bars, restaurants and events in town. And this is exactly what YELP does! Yelp is a social networking, user review, and local search website that has changed the way restaurants and patrons interact. I invited my good friend and Community Manager for Yelp Miami, Maria Argüello for a brief Q&A session. I’ve known Maria for over a year and have witnessed how she has helped Yelp Miami establish as a community nerve center and become the mecca thousands of yelpers in Miami, and surrounding areas, turn to share reviews, events and anecdotes. Considering the tremendous growth and popularity of Yelp’s website & app (more than 53 million monthly unique visitors as of late 2010!) I thought it would be a great idea to invite her to chat and share a few facts about social media, blogs, Yelp and of course, Miami.

Day at the races…

Every now and then I like to switch things up a bit and slip some personal work or fun stuff I like to share with you. And today is one of those days :) I know most of you might be familiar with racing movies like Fast and The Furious and more specific, Tokyo Drift. Well, this past weekend I had the chance to attend the West Palm Beach leg of the Formula Drift 2011 Pro Championship courtesy of Team Falken -which by the way hooked us up with some really nice VIP passes- allowing us to experience this event from a different perspective by meeting drivers, models :) and teams. As always, I took my camera and snapped some photos I wanted to share, so check them out, and if you have a chance to attend one of these events, do it!

Architecture + Photography + Design

You might know by now my love for Design and Photography. And that my camera has somehow become an extension of me, making it easy to find inspiration and find excuses to play and experiment. I recently decided I would start a Photo/Poster mini-project, combining things I love such as Photography, Design and Architecture. I am happy to share that the project has begun and even though it’s only based on Miami architecture, for now, I plan on adding pieces to the collection as I travel.

Walking around New York City

There’s something magical about NYC. Something that many people love but only few can describe well. I personally am in love with this city and its incredible architecture, fast-paced culture, artistic background, design & creative environment, impressive history and of course, fashion. Every visit feels different, and helps re-charge and inspire the hell out of me! (Don’t worry Miami, you will always have a special place in my heart) As most of you already know, although I’m a Designer, I love Photography and always carry my camera with me… So I thought it would be a good idea to share a few photos from my visits, inviting you to see NYC from my point of view and why not, some of my Photography.
