In case you did not know about Jay Alvarrez, he is a Hawaii born model who has been documenting his travels and adventures with friends and model girlfriend Alexis Ren. Why am I sharing this you ask? Well, first because the quality of the videos is pretty good. Also because it should inspire us to travel and enjoy life a little more, I know it did it for me. Check out this compilation video and check out his YouTube channel for more travels and vids. Now go book a flight!
To be honest, I find Casey Neistat very annoying. But that’s not the point here (I watched the video on mute in case you are not very fond of the dude either). He recently scored a first class upgrade worth $21K and filmed the experienced. I know some of us have traveled business or first class and think it is pretty cool, but this… this is beyond cool. Check out the video and start saving for your next trip ;)
You know that ol’ saying, “Surround yourself with positive, passionate, creative and inspiring dreamers…” well, it may not be a famous adage, but it is a principle I live my life by. And speaking of dreams and passion, today I want to share a fun project my friends Brendan and Amanda have been working on, and that with your support through Kickstarter, can become a reality. Their dream is to build a landlocked-sailboat that serves as a pop-up shop in order to travel across the US sharing their inspiration through workshops and spreading the word about their lovely brand Ocean&Sea
As most of you probably know already from my latest interview with Armin Vit (HERE), I am on my way to Chicago for this year’s Brand New Conference (hope to meet some of you there!) , so there won’t be any posts this week :( But it’s not all sad news. Make sure to check Twitter, Facebook and Instagram as I will be sharing photos, behind the scenes, and talks by some amazingly talented speakers I can’t wait to meet. See you on ‘the social media’.
Being that I am on my way to Chocago, I figured it would be a good idea to check out and share some cool videos and time lapses. “Cityscape Chicago is a personal timelapse piece consisting of over 30,000 still photographs shot on the Canon 5D Mark III incrementally between July and October 2012 around downtown Chicago, Illinois.”
If you know me well, or if you’ve taken one of my classes, you know how important good Type is for me and what a sucker I am for anything that involves beautiful typography. EF launched a series of Type videos called ‘Live the language‘ a couple of years ago, and we enjoyed them (HERE and HERE). Yesterday, I received a message from Hedvig at EF, sharing their latest video… and it is as lovely as the previous ones. Although, it saddened me to see that after the 90s, Typography has not have a truly iconic look like previous decades. The Type drops at the 90s mark, and then all we get is a generic text bubble :(
Remember the old days, when hotels were just… hotels. A clean room, pool and on-site restaurant were pretty much all that was offered. Well, not anymore. The impressive rise of boutique hotels has definitely changed the hospitality game. I mean, how could you not love them, they’re unique, well-managed and marketed, and offer something that big chain hotels don’t – personality and intimacy. The Music Hotel in Berlin is a great example of the passion, and attention to detail that goes into these new ‘cool’ hotels. The music-themed property cleverly based its guidance and signage system on popular song titles, making the overall experience fun, unique and memorable. Very boutique…
Last week I received a great email from someone who watched and enjoyed the Rio post (HERE) so much, that he is now planning a trip to Brazil! After all, that is the goal of this blog :) Speaking of traveling, my friends just got back from their European vacation, and seeing their photos made me realize how much I’ve been wanting to visit Europe and how I should really stop postponing this idea. So, to get us all in a happy, adventurous mood, today I want to share a lovely video I’ve had bookmarked for a while featuring the magic of Paris. The Quiet City features Paris’ beauty and iconic landmarks in a way we usually don’t get to enjoy. During winter…
For these past couple of days, all conversations with friends, rivals and family members have focused on next year’s World Çup, and the qualifying games going on this week. I mean, is there a bigger and more important sporting event in the world? Don’t think about it, the answer is no. And of course, since the World Cup will take place in Brasil, we’re all either practicing words or checking out videos… just in case. Today I want to share a lovely video I recently found featuring the majestic beauty of Rio de Janeiro and its iconic landmarks like Copacabana, Cristo Redentor, Ipanema, Barra da Tijuca, many more… This post is also dedicated to my dad, whose always awesome tales about his favorite city have sparked my curiosity and hopefully, future travels. And who is probably Rio’s biggest ambassador! :)
Two years ago, I posted a beautiful time-lapse video that captivated me with its stunning scenes and colors. The name of the video was “The Unseen Sea” (HERE) and it was created by San Francisco based Photographer Simon Christen. Still in love with his city and its iconic clouds and fog, Simon decided to create a homage, or as he calls it, love letter to the fog of the San Francisco Bay Area. ADRIFT is a collection of clips featuring that oh so lovely SF fog (when seen from above, because being trapped by it… stinks!) Check out the video after the jump and visit his website for more beautiful work. Continue reading…;
As much as we love what we do, it is also good and healthy to disconnect every now and then to take a vacation and clear up, recharge and of course, get inspired. There won’t be any posts this coming week but I promise there will be some interesting things coming up soon (and photos!). But for now, I am off to discover Turks and Caicos, St. Thomas, St. John the beautiful Virgin Islands and Enjoy the Caribbean!
Since I am, and will be in LA for the rest of the week, I wanted to share again a beautiful project I shared a while back but that came to mind as I drove past great signs and Design around town. So, without further ado, enjoy these fantastic posters… When was your last road trip? Whether it is with friends or family, we all enjoy the freedom, sense of adventure and discovery road trips provide. So, what could make a road trip even better? How about some great illustrated postcards like the ones Braden Wise, a Los Angeles based Designer & Illustrator created to document his cross-country move to California. Good Day CA is a visual memoir of this trip and combines beautiful illustration, typography and Braden’s personal experiences.
One of the many treats of growing up in South America was vast variety of climates, regions and proximity to neighboring countries. To celebrate our middle school graduation, my class and I took a school trip deep into the Amazonas River and the beautiful Ecuadorian rain forest that surrounds it. It was an experience I will never forget – and strongly recommend it!. One of the coolest experiences from that trip was definitely our ‘floating hotel’. These hotels smoothly navigate through rivers, providing breath-taking views of nature and landscapes, and taking you places only boats or natives could get to. I recently found an article and was glad to learn that these hotels still exist, and are now ‘luxuring’ things up. M/V Aria and M/V Aqua are Peru’s first luxury floating hotels and are putting a spin on jungle vacations.
So, a chance of returning to the West Coast next year came up and I am freakin’ stoked! I loved San Francisco and have been dying to go back :) And to prepare myself, I wanted to share my San Francisco photos and post from last year…
There’s something magical about NYC. Something that many people love but only few can describe well. I personally am in love with this city and its incredible architecture, fast-paced culture, artistic background, design & creative environment, impressive history and of course, fashion. Every visit feels different, and helps re-charge and inspire the hell out of me! (Don’t worry Miami, you will always have a special place in my heart) As most of you already know, although I’m a Designer, I love Photography and always carry my camera with me… So I thought it would be a good idea to share a few photos from my visits, inviting you to see NYC from my point of view and why not, some of my Photography.
Last month, I had the pleasure of enjoying NYC for a couple of days as part of my vacation and got to absorb all the energy, inspiration and craziness I love and always miss. Now, most of you probably already know this but September is a pretty busy month in NYC when it comes to Fashion, and this year, I was there to experience some of the glam and craziness you can only find in NY. Today I want to share a few photos of the many I took while walking around the streets and of course, Lincoln Center. Now, before you ask, no, I am not a fashion expert or editor – although I do consider myself a bit savvy :), but when you combine Manhattan with interesting fashion/people, you are fortunate to have inspiring Fashion expert friends (this post is dedicated to y’all) and are a fan of Photographers like Bill Cunningham or Scott Schuman, you have no choice but to whip out your camera and get your Sartorialist on!
There’s something special about illustrated Versus/Comparisson videos that always makes us smile. I know you guys enjoyed the last one I posted about Copywriters vs. Art Directors and today I want to share a new one I recently found and enjoyed. Based on Vahram Muratyan’s book, Paris vs New York, Director Tony Miotto illustrated some of the major differences between Paris and New York. Check them out and see if you can think of more…
While writing an email today, I realized how simple #hashterms can serve as a way of communication and perfectly narrate a short story/message. You see, in 4 words I was able to let my friend know where I’m going, what I am doing and what #hashtags I will be mostly using during my trip. Don’t get me wrong, I am an avid advocate of proper communication, but when you’re in a rush… this works wonders! Ok, back to today’s post. September is here and it is time for some needed, deserved and way overdue vacation, and I wanted to let you know I will be out of town for a couple of days, hence there might not be many new posts… (I am purposely trying to disconnect). I will try to update or re-post some of my/your favorite features and I promise I’ll bring back some great material, goodies and of course, photos from NYC, Brand New Conference, New York Fashion Week and DC. BRB!
