It is no secret that ZARA has seen its fare share of legal battles and accusations of stealing artists’ work, but this new case including LA artist Tuesday Bassen might make you cringe. To explain it briefly, Tuesday Bassen asked ZARA to stop stealing her artwork, and ZARA said “the lack of distinctiveness of your client’s purported designs makes it very hard to see how a significant part of the population anywhere in the world would associate the signs with Tuesday Bassen”. Then they stole her art five more times. Yup, crazy. Check out an interview and article about this case HERE Stay legit, peeps!
If you are afraid of heights, you may want to skip this video as it features two dudes climbing the Eiffel tower with zero protection or harnesses. Yea, I don’t know why either… It’s almost impossible to get to the tower illegally (do not try to repeat this) especially in view of recent political developments and the ongoing European Football Championship. Police and national guard are always on duty on the premises of the tower. The shoot was carried out in the rainy season. The level of Seine river broke the 30-year-old record and the wind speed reached up to 6m/s. The poor drone operator not only crashed the drone but also received a pretty big fine.
Yes. It is a sad day in sports. The second greatest basketball player (yes, because Michael is still number one) retires tonight. And in order to celebrate’s the Black Mamba’s last game, NIKE launched an ad spot featuring the love/hate relationship Kobe had with pretty much every fan out there. Depending on who you ask, Kobe Bryant was basketball’s greatest hero or its greatest villain. As he walks off the court for the last time, opponents and fans tell him how they really feel… THANK YOU KOBE!
You may remember my dear friend Maria Bentley from her interview HERE and her stunning work. Maria and her husband Nick recently launched a powerful campaign, which I am proud to share, in collaboration with UNICEF shedding light into a disturbing issue around the world. Underage marriages. “We are so proud and honored to be a part of this powerful #EndChildMarriage campaign with UNICEF and BridalMusings to help shed light on this disturbing subject. Today, on International Women’s Day, we are the voice of the voiceless, and we hope you will be too.” Congrats guys!
If you work or have worked at an advertising agency, this will make you smile – and then cry a little inside. We’ve all been through this, and many of us have survived the dreaded ‘Holiday Card’. A project so iconic and important for very, very few people. Check out this mini trailer and show it to your friends… $100 says they still won’t get it.
Online gambling has come a long way. Many have managed to incorporate lots of features you’d expect to find in regular casinos all without ever having to leave your home. It can truly be an exhilarating experience without the hassle of going out. After conquering tasks like this though, you’d expect that appealing the masses wouldn’t be hard, eh? Well, unfortunately in advertising things don’t always go to plan. Marketing is a tricky business. Sometimes marketers get things very right. For example, check out how Lexus managed to have us all salivating over the new Lexus RC F.
I know we’ve addressed the issue of spec work before, but until we all agree on stop doing it either as freelancers or agencies, I’ll continue to share campaigns and try to end this terrible virus. To prove how terrible spec work really is, the folks at Zulu Alpha Kilo decided to create a video campaign showing how professionals in different industries react to what some agencies and designers have come to accept as normal questions and business proposals. Spec work is not good and will never be good for you as a professional. It is unacceptable and it has to stop. Spread the message!
To celebrate Back to the Future day, Toyota released this lovely ad spot featuring Marty and Doc Brown as well as a micro site (HERE) dedicated to their new fuel cell vehicle, the Toyota Mirai. As you know, I am a huge Back to the Future geek, and considering the Pepsi’s fiasco with Pepsi Perfect, I am glad that at least one company got their shit together and were able to deliver on 10/21/2015. (We’ll go back to Pepsi’s shit release later). Enjoy!
If you are a Back to the Future geek like me, then you know October 21 is a pretty big deal (If you don’t know why, you’re not as hardcore as you think) But for the new kids and those who are not familiar, let me explain. October 21, 2015 is the date when Marty and Doc travel to the future. Remember those future scenes with hover boards, AR movie posters, flaying cars… Seemed like an awesome time right? Well, it’s the year 2015 and we have Donald Trump running for President. Yeah, let that sink in… To join the BTTF celebration, Pepsi is releasing a limited edition Pepsi Perfect bottle – just like the one featured in the movie. There are only a few hundred produced so be sure you get yours. Now, if we can only get dehydrated pizza from Pizza Hut…
There is a place where all fictional characters meet. . Outside of time, Outside of all logic, This place is known as HELL’S CLUB, But this club is not safe. This club features appearances – and fights between Terminator Vs Tony Montana vs Tom Cruise vs Carlito Brigante vs Blade vs John Travolta vs Al Pacino vs Pinhead vs The Mask vs Robocop vs Dart Vader vs Michael Jackson vs… yup, this is one of the coolest mashups you’ll ever see. Enjoy!
It’s truly sad that thanks to clowns like Trump and company, the word immigrant has turned into something negative, or despicable. This, unfortunately has an effect on people – mostly below average intelligence people – who at the only sound of the word, turn their backs. But the problem is not only here, if you haven’t heard (and really, if you haven’t, please check some articles online), there’s a big migrant crisis going on in the Mediterranean Sea that involved many countries and the EU. But today is not about my rant, is about helping people who are truly helping men, women, and children in need. Please watch this videos and donate to MOAS. Believe me, what they are doing is incredible!
Chances are, you’ve probably seen this video making its rounds on Facebook, but after a conversation with a friend today – who has not seen it yet – I decided to share it, because we all deserve to watch this impressive drawing. Only thing I can tell you is, this is no ordinary glass of water drawing. Enjoy!
‘Welcome to Airbnb’, is a lovely ad spot created by TWBA Singapore that takes the user on an exciting train journey through amazing landscapes, and cozy apartments, all wonderfully created by hand! As you board the train in this film, you’re transported into a magical world that represents the very heart of Airbnb. As you wind your way through some of the amazing listings Airbnb has to offer, you get a different perspective on the world. With each viewing, you see something unique and interesting that you didn’t notice before, mirroring the experience that many people have when they travel with Airbnb.
I’m going to be honest. I’m as excited as Drama after getting a casting call. The Entourage movie trailer is finally out and I had to share it. Oh, and for the record, it does not matter if the movie is great or if it sucks, I’ll be there. Bring on the Ari Gold-ness!
If you know me, you know what a huge fan I am of Aaron Draplin. Not just because he’s a real badass and extremely talented, but because he’s one of the coolest and humblest guys you’ll ever meet. Last week, I found this Lynda video featuring the man himself, and I had to share it! Most logos aren’t designed in fifteen minutes, but most designers aren’t Aaron Draplin. Aaron’s a Portland fixture by way of the Midwest, the owner of Draplin Design Co., and an advocate of “blue collar” design: design that works. Here he takes our logo design challenge, creating a dozen iterations of a logo for a fictional construction company. Watch as he sketches, brings his ideas into Illustrator, and tests and tunes the different iterations. Along the way, he provides tips for freelancing, finding inspiration, and providing clients context for logos that won’t just live in PDFs. Enjoy!
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to work on different fields, mediums, and for great brands I admire. But, if you ask me what’s the one thing I have not done yet and that is definitely part of my bucket list, I would say - without hesitation - a music video. Music videos have been an important inspiration source for many years, think Michael Jackson, Guns N’ Roses, Hype Williams’ hip hop videos, and the list goes on. OK Go is a band that has been killing it lately through amazing creative direction and impressive executions. Their latest video, shot in Japan is another example of their vision and commitment to continuously raise the bar, try new things and deliver great visual products.
I had the chance to catch an early showing of HBO’s documentary on Banksy’s New York 2013 residency over the weekend and I wanted to share it in case you were not aware of it (premieres November 17th). The film, produced entirely from user-generated content, from YouTube videos, Instagram photos, New Yorkers and Banksy hunters alike, documents the 31 days the artist spent in NYC and the different pieces he delivered around the boroughs (some still on sale).
Emoji have become an inescapable part of our daily lives and this short film examines the far-reaching impact of these very special characters. From the popular dancing girl, to the infamous eggplant, the video showcases them in various situations, and might help the very few of us who are still not using them, to understand them better :) Dedicated to Shigetaka Kurita, the inventor of emoji.
Today is an important day for US Soccer. Not because we play Belgium or because we all get to proudly wear our jerseys and flags. Because today we have the chance to make history by advancing to quarter finals, and by doing so, awakening those few last souls who still wrongfully think ’soccer’ is a hobby. This could be that pivotal point, when the US finally adopts and supports fully (not only every four years) this beautiful sport :) And if we don’t advance, we’ll keep trying. That’s what makes it interesting. I BELIEVE!!!
So! The World Cup finally kicks off in 22 days, and if you are like me, you’re already warning friends and family that you will be unavailable and disconnected during game hours, or planning get-togethers and BBQs to watch the games. I mean, we wait four long years for this! Since we’re talking World Cup, the new music video for the official song was recently released and it features Pitbull, Jennifer Lopez and Claudia Leitte. Unfortunately, it’s not what I (and perhaps many) was expecting for a Brazilian World Cup. Yes, no other song will be as powerful and iconic as Shakira’s but… Why the would give it to Pitbull and Jennifer Lopez?? The painful lyrics are beyond poor, don’t even rhyme, and feel half-assed. The only good part is when brazilian singer Claudia Leitte steps in and gives the song some much needed brazilian flavor and credibility by dropping 4 lines in portuguese – And some serious legs. With so much Brazilian talent and with such a rich musical history, WHY PITBULL?
The World Cup is almost here! (44 days if you want to get specific) and as you can imagine, beautiful and exciting ad spots are appearing everywhere daily. I mean, when it comes to advertising and promotion, you can’t really escape a phenomenon like this (Unless you live in the US), and that is a great thing! And when you think of great campaigns and spots, NIKE always manages to stay on top of the game with impressive and brilliantly executed ideas. The theme and campaign for this World Cup is Risk Everything, and its latest ad, featuring players like Ronaldo, Neymar, Ibrahimovic, Rooney, Higuain, Howard, Pirlo, Iniesta, and a couple more is pure magic as it takes you back to school days games (You know you and your friends always personified your favorite players). Check out more videos after the jump!
If you grew up watching Back to the Future – or if you’ve been introduced to the saga by friends, mere curiosity or the buzz – you know what a hoverboard is. In fact, you’ve been dreaming and asking Santa for one every Christmas since 1989. Or maybe that’s just me… Well, good news. MIT geniuses along with a couple of celebrities including Doc Brown, Tony Hawk and Moby recently got together to experience and introduce the world to HUVr, the first, real, hoverboard. Check the video after the jump!
Remember that brilliant animated PSA video by Metro Trains Melbourne called Dumb Ways to Die? (HERE) Well, the little fellas are back, just in time for Valentine’s Day, to remind of a few things like not giving out your heart so easily, or not sleeping with that mysterious european bartender you just met at the bar. Yet.
With Basel Miami right around the corner and the impressive amount of talent and pieces going up around Wynwood, everyone is in that wonderful ’street art’ mood. I personally can’t wait until next week to visit and meet old and new friends who will be working on beautiful masterpieces (I will share them all here very soon) and who constantly inspire us all. And to contribute to the excitement, here’s an amazing video featuring Australian artist SOFLES and crew in a lovely time-lapse + graffiti bonanza. Enjoy!
