Caine’s Arcade

TheeBlog-CainesArcade There are stories that can make us smile, feel good and even inspire us. The story I want to share today does it all! Meet Caine, an extremely talented, resourceful and inspiring 9 year old boy from east LA who spent his summer vacation building his very own cardboard arcade. This film narrates Caine’s story, directed and narrated by Nirvan Mullick, Caine’s first -and for a while- only customer. I strongly suggest you watch this video today, not only is it a great story about a boy’s imagination and determination, but also about hope and the power of good will in people (yup, there’s still some left out there) and of course, social media. Enjoy and share it!

Make Your Mark

TheeBlog-MakeYourMark Starting you own studio or agency is no walk in the park. It was one of the toughest projects I’ve ever encountered, but one that taught me things I would probably would’ve never learned working ‘for the man’. One of the most arduous tasks when launching your venture is getting some exposure and community love. These three London lads knew this and figured out a brilliant way to launch their newly established studio and engage their local community through a fun interactive window display using a Nintendo Wii remote, custom made Infa-Red yellow pencils and a printer. Check out Buthcher’s Hook video after the jump!

The Story of Sushi

I know most of you love Sushi. But, do you really know its story? This great and elaborate video is here to help and teach us the how, where and why of Sushi. Oh, and on a side note, it was completely created using miniature figures and took only 7 months… yeah. It is a great and well executed idea, although I must admit the narrator’s voice bothered me a little since it felt a little too’movie trailer’ and didn’t follow the international Narration & Voice Over Guidelines’ number one (and most important) rule: Hire Morgan Freeman.

The Joy of Books

After organizing their bookshelf almost a year ago, Sean Ohlenkamp and his wife decided to take it to the next level! They spent many sleepless nights moving and stacking books at Type bookstore in Toronto and the result is a lovely and magical animated video. Enjoy!

Stop SOPA & PIPA!

TheeBlog-BlackoutI am sure that by now you are aware of the Anti SOPA and PIPA campaign launched by many organization and websites like Google and Wikipedia and I know there are still many people who are not aware of what this means or simply are indifferent to it. Please consider the consequences of these absurd bills – they will affect us all! Bloggers like me, blog readers like you, many small businesses, etc. The list goes on… Please take 5 minutes of your day to raise awareness and share this with your friends. And if you can, get involved and help keep the interwebz free.

The Occupy Poster Project

TheeBlog-OccupyPosterProject
Most of us know and have been following the Occupy Wall Street Movement. Hopefully. And although there have been many attempts to support this movement visually by many artists, designers, illustrators and even music moguls like JayZ (altho his motives -monetary- were questioned) this new campaign/project is probably my favorite. The Occupy Poster Project combines lovely prints and posters by Design masters like James Victore, Us & Them, Dan Cassaro, etc. Check out these sweet posters after the jump!

Sub City

TheeBlog-SubCity
Remember your first visit to New York and that great ‘wow’ feeling you experienced after emerging from the subway and witnessing the city’s unique ‘life’? I do, and that is why I liked these lovely videos by the folks at RedglassPictures recreating this experience and featuring New York and Paris subways. Such a simple yet interesting concept, able to bring back memories or remind us of beautiful scenarios and environments that might get lost in our daily routines or that we might take for granted.

Marty McFly’s 2011 NIKE MAG

TheeBlog-Nike_MAG2011
You don’t need to be a movie geek when it comes to the Back to the Future trilogy. In fact, I bet 8 out of 10 people can recite lines, debate scenes and discuss soundtracks. We all love these movies! (yes, even the western version) and most importantly, love its characters – admit it, you always wanted to be like Marty McFly growing up! If you are like me and always wanted to be like McFly, today might be your lucky day! NIKE has partnered with the Michael J. Fox Foundation and the Back to the Future saga to launch a limited edition series of NIKE MAG kicks! YES!! The same Nikes Marty wore when he traveled to 2015! Only 1,500 shoes will be produced and made available only through eBay, with all proceeds going to The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. So, what are you waiting for? Start bidding and own a piece of history… or the future.
